I am in the lower tier when it comes to match making so I will not be fighting the impressive players that counter my

An analogy would be the Stuntmen for the movie "Game of Death" that asked Bruce Lee for a show and he gave them both an impressive lightning kick to the balls that they grew to appreciate after time had passed.

However CCP has made the right choice using Tiers even though I will see less amazing play, there is a good side to Tiers. I see less amazing play but also see less pathetic things like a group pubstompers shooting newbs on a spawn point. There are SOME cases where it is clear that pubstompers are ruining the game for everyone else so they can lie to themselves about being better than others. It is also very clear they are lying when they say "I am just being competitive" when they get mocked for their depraved behavior.

If the latter, you'll be promoted over time, I'd expect. If you're consistently in the bottom half of the former, I'd suspect a similar if opposite demotion.

People have weird twists on what they believe that means. To me it's having the freedom to use whatever gear we want (talking about racial not tier) and being able to join and quit corporations. There haven't been many variations of game modes to make grouping much of a necessity. This is very obvious when you check team chat when you deploy into matches. So much solo. So much small, crap corps led by people that have no idea what they are doing and fatten their wallets from taxes. There's a big element that most people in Dust miss out on. When PC mattered and participation was high people were training and recruiting, merging, etc. I'm not a great player, but I was hooked on squad play the moment I paired my headset with my PS3. There are plenty of players in good corps that aren't great but find a way to contribute. This game will really take off if they make corps matter. If they give us things to do as a corporation for our entire play session that matter and lead to riches I think people will be drawn into it. There are groups out there for everybody. Dust will never be what it could be for you individually if you fail to find a group.

Kd positive most games and do what role is needed but not supplied on field. I run logi if there arent any. Scout if its needed. Assault when I want to lose fights lol. So new players with fine motor control and reasonable situational awareness will start in the lower tier and eventually move to the top tier after learning the game. I simply do not have the fine motor control or the situational awareness to get promoted to the top tier so I will never see the higher tier players again.

I consider myself mediocre and yet I can often do quite well in the WP and kill department, role allowing for such a thing. Maybe you are looking at people that are at the same level as you as "man, those people are good!" and simply notice when you screw up or are not confident in your own ability. Ratatti explained it like there were only two tiers, but in my experience there is at least 3 - Academy 2.0 - Basic/Advanced - Proto Hell Oddly enough I have a 600K SP account that was created a month ago to check out the new starter fits and new player experience changes. (When the 3 extra Frontline fits were added) I stomped the crap out of the academy players with a militia assault combat rifle and ended up with a KDR upwards in the 8.0/10.0 range. Life time warpoints of 9,000, some missions want you to make more than that in a day! After playing 4 matches in the proto tier getting my face smashed in while running starter fits... my KDR is now 1.24 with 67 kills and 54 deaths as of this post. Yet... I am still in the proto tier. Basically, the system is working to a degree. And IMO I think it is based heavily on average Kills and War Points per match. I know several logi's in particular with severely negative KDR's yet they are with the Veterans due to their WP generation. You will find a lot of commando's will get promoted very early as well despite having little to no gun game due to their WP generation from Vehicle Damage. I understood Mu was used to separate queues into groups then the same Mu was used to balance teams within the groups. If that is correct there is no upper and lower tier overall it's decided at the point of queueing relative to who else is queueing. I could be wrong on that though as I can't find the post.

I think that is what is going on, Scotty splits everyone in the queue into a lower group and a high group and then it makes a match for the lower group and it makes a separate match for the high group, So if you are in the top 50% of the people in the queue you will be in a battle with the other people in the top 50% of the queue.
