FPS on VR? LOL no thank you. Especially if they use the Sharpshooter. Maybe once CCP learns how to properly map a control scheme and have it perform well... |

I will say this on topic however...
When I played Wolfenstien for the time, I got motion sickness.
FPS have come a long way, and there is no reason to believe that at some point they will find a way to make something in FP for VR that won't make you sick.
At this point however, it is probably too soon.

Its been proven that FPS and VR just dont sit well together. Imagine trying to control your characters moving direction as well as aim your gun with the controls AND control the view of the screen with the movement of your head.

I own a DK2. This is what I have found.
The biggest concern for FPS with Oculus is less the nausea (which is a problem for me) but the fact that there is no point of origin for movement. In a FPS, when you press W/Up Arrow/Up on the joystick you move in the direction you are facing. With Oculus, you will often not be facing the direction you are moving. There is character facing and camera facing. Character is how your character is oriented while camera facing is you looking through the Oculus.
For Windlands, you control facing with the right stick and movement with the left. You have to carefully line up character face with camera face so that you move in a straight line. Even the SLIGHTEST offset will make you feel like you are walking on a curved road while drunk. It is breathtaking to play but there is no way in hell I would want to sit for 2 hours and play a competitive FPS with it. OR works absolutely best with "man in machine" games. Racing, mech warrior, and piloting is going to be the best as people are used to the idea of "the car goes straight no matter where my head is." For FPS, I see it being a far greater hindrance than boon.
FanFest 2014 was Hilmar's "3 games, 1 Universe" where they want Valkyrie to be "15-60 minute playtime", DUST/Legion "60-120 minute", and EVE to be the big 2 hour+ game time statement. Eric Cooper (nice guy) also said that the plan was to have Valkyrie last year in Vegas to be more arcade like and not plant in seat for hours. I think this is the best way to go. The Oculus Rift is impressive but it isn't something you can stay with because it does eventually start to 'get' to you. An hour on Windlands feels like watching Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield, and then the non-tripod moments of Paranormal Activity on fast forward. Two hours of Elite Dangerous brings similar results.

VR FPS would probably be fun in kind of an old school, light-rail gungame sort of way.
Not in a way where you actually move yourself around though.
Usually banned for being too awesome.

It has to do with how there is no sense of the characters body in the game. You don't know where the body is, but yet you are seeing from the eyes.
It would be easily remedies by locking the players orientation in place though...

Oculus and FPS?
Sure :)
- if you set options corectly, and you get steady 60 fps... ok. You can play long. Going about 50...40 fps and low... bye bye - there is more control mode - free head is fun and you just learn new trick, but you are 'slower' then normal player and if you loose oreintation... game over . But this is doable. If developers 'force' you to use head more then you need ( direction from 2014 fanfest ;) you probably will be in trouble.
I found one game 'star-conflict' that I can play very long and it works right after 'unboxing'. For me playing without cocpit (or any kind virtual nose) is possible and I don't have issues here.
We will see if someone manage to beat Valkirie in one session ;)
Not much time left...
