To which server? Or just the local one to test the bandwidth? (which does not matter that much in fps gaming)
Looking at both sides of the coin.
Even Aurum one.

tis not your internet speed test that matters, but your connection to the dust server that your using that matters.... without the battle server IP this is pointless.

speedtest will not give you correct information, because the validation occurs over a very short period of time. to check your Internet channel for several hours it is better to use specialized software that creates reports in graphical form.

Has anyone looked at just how much (or little) bandwidth is required for a stable DUST game?
I'm betting it's relatively small, and I suspect jitter (i.e. ping variance and lost packets) has much more of an effect on your gameplay experience than the size/speed of your connection. |

I would expect that required bandwidth is not terribly large and I totally agree that things like stability and reliability in regards to ping and jitter are certainly much more of a factor in battle. Of course natural latency is probably the single largest factor in online gaming.
As for the test -
London Test server selected (I'm about 100 miles away)
Ping - 26m/s Down - 48Mbps Up - 18Mbps

My parents (in all their wisdom) trust bt with their internet requirements. At peak times, we were faster when using dial up.
At 0.45mbps download, I can't even log into psn, so no dust for me. At 2.8mbps, it's barely playable so I just don't bother. By 3.5, it's getting to the point where the quality is like a regular game in the gal research facility, so if I snipe then I'm ok. If I move, I ping everywhere.
As for ping, it has varied from 36-465. I find that my internet at home is much better for dust even when the ping is similar (30-60) as the speed is 5 times faster. |
