So... remote explosives; a rather curious thing they are. Seems they are both equipment and a weapon at the same time. Perhaps it is time CCP decides which of the two they are.
Question: If I deplete my nanohives, can I restock them by simply standing next to a supply depot? If I run out of drop uplinks, can I replenish them standing on a nanohive? Can I resupply nanohives by standing on a nanohive?
No, I cannot do any of these because equipment is not ammunition.
Yet I CAN do it with remote explosives. Pourquoi?
REs are clearly listed as equipment in the marketplace, and they occupy an equipment slot; so why are they treated as ammunition and resupplied at hives and depots?
I believe herein lies an opportunity for the RE fix players have been asking for.
I suggest the effectiveness of an RE remain unchanged.
Rather, I say remove the ability to resupply RE at hives and depots. The only means of replenishing them will be the same as links and hives: through recycling of the dropsuit or respawning; press O at supply depot or death.
I could ramble on describing how this would affect the game, but I'll just through these points out: control of supply depots, how equipment slots are fitted, more conservative use, end of homicidal PEZ dispensers (re and hive combo from above), and so on.
So, what will it be CCP? REs are equipment or weapon?

Hiya, Star.
I disagree with you that nanohives shouldn't re-supply remote explosives. Its a weapon. I understand where you are coming from with it being an equipment slot user BUT it is both a weapon and a piece of equipment.
A grenade is also a piece of equipment and a weapon. Its an explosive device, same as the remote explosive. The demolitions aspect of any balanced arsenal is very important, even in real life.
Take a look at real life Marines. A demolitions / regular infantryman carries 4 frags, two claymores and a couple of pounds of C4 as well as an extra belt for ammunition along with food and other supplies in their packs.
Where would you put the RE? In the grenade slot? Where would you put your grenades? The supply depot acts much like a humvee, in which you can grab more supplies and restock. You can get ammo, grenades, claymores, C4 and other various weapons (humvee's often carry grenade launchers and other smaller weapons)
So it makes sense for the nanohives to restock both grenades and remote explosives. It makes sense for the supply depot to do the same.
Even in the lore, with all of the technology of New Eden, why would the nanohive be unable to replenish RE's? The nanohives is a sophisticated team support device and not a primitive trunk of ammo.
That's all I'm saying. As many times as CCP has nerfed the RE's, I think its time we leave them alone. This is coming from someone who rarely gets his RE's resupplied by nano's (partly because I carry 10 of them on my gal logi suit so nanohive re-supply for me is sort of irrelevant)

Yes, perhaps RE should be moved to grenade slot. It fits the bill. Where would you put the grenade? On the shelf. Make a choice which explosive you want to carry.
