How hard would it be to throw Dust 514 onto UE4?! Then slap that onto the PS4 and run from there =ƒÿÅG¥ô https://www.unrealengine.com

Dust's engine has been heavily customized and optimized for PS3. This could actually make it harder to move to UE4. Hopefully not though.

I just wonder how stable is what they created compared to UE4...

Well then if that's the case and UE4 has nothing to offer for free then get on the good foot and make my PS4 useful=ƒÿü |

Heavily modified for UE3 makes no sense. None. Probable real reasons include: spaghetti code, lack of knowledgeable staff, and terrible executive leadership.
Plus Dust on UE3 isn't exactly the bastion of a finely tuned large product- it's a lobby shooter with the same game assets since over a year ago. Same bugs mostly as well.

FYI it's not free.
You still have to pay 5% of your gross per quarter. Which is far better than the 25% you had to pay with UE3.. so are they still paying 25%? OR it may be possible that they negotiated it down to 5%...
How funny would it be if they are stuck paying 25%? Or anything more than 5% because they won't get off UE3?

That post doesn't apply anymore. At this point, it doesn't matter anymore how heavily modified Dust is with UE3. It's better and more practical to upgrade it to UE4 prior to porting it over to the PS4. But even if we're stuck with UE3 in the PS4, I'm ok with that because Dust would then no longer be trapped in the PS3.

I'm sure CCP is well aware of the price change at this point for UE4. I just hope they're smart enough to use that as the basis for Dust moving on.
PS: Technically, UE4 is FREE due to not having to pay anything to acquire it and not having to pay anything to update it. Beyond that, it only costs money if your product sells well enough.

*sigh* not this f**kin s**t again!
THE DECISION TO PUT DUST ON PS4 IS NOT ENTIRELY CCP'S!
SONY have to allow it to be distributed on their service and CCP have to abide by thier rules and regulations in order for it to be hosted/distributed.
With the negative critical response dust has had in its 3yrs on PS3, ask yourself "why would Sony want it on the PS4?" with PS2 due out eventually, formerly owned by Sony and various other Tripple A titles from bigger (and more reliable) developers DUST/Legion will be ignored as much as it is on PS3 if it ever made it.
anyone i speak to with a PS3 doesn't even know DUST is available, or that its a free game thanks to CCPs amazing advertising and promotion for it

I'd bet they never paid 25% to begin with. Maybe they negotiated it down to 5% (an if they didn't they should). Bigger companies that can demonstrate profit can usually negotiate better deals. I really wonder...
Technically then- UE4 is free to learn. It's not free to conduct business with. That is the utter technicality of it... thus it is not free. Never was never will be. Launching it on your computer doesn't make it free. Developers are in it for the money and they have to pay to play just as much as their customers do.
Saying it is free belies a lack of knowledge of business fundamentals. FYI. |

Why are you acting like you're against the move towards the PS4? It's not gonna be any better if it gets moved over to the PC where it then has to compete with Star Citizen.

There is nothing about this game that has been optimized.

Heavily optimized is certain about Dust. But it's still not optimized enough from my experience. I could replace my HDD with a SSD but I have never upgraded any hardware on a console before. Is it safe to assume that the OS used on the console is installed on the drive or is installed elsewhere in the console?

My hope is, that they gain enough experience with Valkyrie on the UE4 engine, that it is a better option to move straight to that one, and also to the ps4.
So let's give them some leeway, and support the Ratt in everything he can do with what we have. And if Valk is any good, we should push for Dust UE4 port to ps4! |
