So I've been dabbling in tanks since the update and I've been wondering everyone else's opinions on which turret modifier should be used when. Not that these are mutually exclusive from each other, but I usually end up using one or the other due to fitting. Other vehicles usually don't have enough slots to utilize them, but I can think of a few cases where they could work. My thoughts:
Rail tanks: always use heat sinks. Two shots before over heat isn't enough to kill any respectable tank, plus the DPS increase from the extra shots is much more than that gained from the damage mods.
Solo Blasters: Damage mods. Blasters usually don't overheat until you have about 20 rounds left, so the extra 20 rounds won't be very beneficial and you'd waste most of the mods uptime with reloads. The damage mod will be more beneficial.
Teamwork blaster: If you're rolling with 1-2 side gunners, it should be assumed that you're using small rails. They're the best for AV and AI for ground vehicles, as well as being the easiest turret to fit. As such, a heat sink will benefit all the turrets much more than a damage mod. Small rails are awesome with a heat sink, getting almost 15 shots off before overheat iirc.
Missile: Damage mods, since heatsinks don't affect it.
STD Dropships: If you're using a std dropship with side gunners, you should be using missiles. Rails are too difficult to aim due to the near constant drift of the dropship. As such a damage mod would be nest, if you can fit it. If you're strictly AV, rails would be acceptable, and a heat sink should be used.
ADS: The incubus should never use a damage mod due to only having one high slot, thus forgoing an AB. A Python could fit it with a Cplx heavy extender, enh AB, and enh damage mod, though it requires some fitting skills. As such, a damage mod is the best.
LAV: Lol, just don't bother using it.
Dispersion dampener: You may have wondered why I didn't mention using this. That's because it's bugged and doesn't work at all. You can theorize about using it, but I haven't thought of a use for it even if it did work.
Those are my thoughts, let me know. What you think.

I use a heatsink on most of my tank fits cause madrugars with a large blaster+2 small rails= win. That and the heatsink affects both type of turrets which means DPS can be hold up for a longer duration.

This for blasters, otherwise if using a rail I prefer a D-mod. Nothing messes up an opponent more then that first Proto Rail that is D-modded slamming into them before they hit those hardeners. Tripple-shotting unaware HAVs who rely on hardener tanking is beyond satisfying as your first shot is usually so unforgiving that they never can recover properly even with a hardener or two running for the second shot.

Dabbling in tanks?
Nope. Confirming that pilot input is not, and never was, valued. - Breakin Stuff

I don't consider myself a tanker, but since the SP I've invested from ADSs meshes with tanks, I thought I'd give them a shot with the new changes and all, and how they may apply to or affect ADSs and other vehicles.
LUGMOS wrote:Why not Both? As I said, fitting mostly. I prefer shield tanks because they're much more manageable (and for some reason I have a general distain for armor stuff). I run a 3 mod tank with a nitro so that typically leaves one open slot (lows for fitting mods).
