I know everybody has their own personal problem with this game, that if it were fixed they would enjoy the game more, and for me that is definitely the lack of variety in the game modes. Frankly it has really stagnated my experience with the game, to the point where I don't even play very often anymore.
Are there any optimists out there that still think we might get some new mode? I know my hope withered and died a very long time ago. I remember a time when people were more vocal about this problem, and for every thread there would be a CPM to instill a false sense of hope with a, "SoonGäó."
But really, we have gotten to the point where totally unnecessary things like super jumping have been added to the game in favor of things we actually need, like game modes. (Not to say the myos are bad, but we could easily have waited so time could better be spent on GAME MODES)
To end, just a little disclaimer here. When I say a new game mode, I mean something different. When domination was added to the game, it wasn't a new game mode, it was just a slight variation on something we already had. I mean something significantly different from what we already have, to break some of the monotony of our two modes. Hell, Skirmish 1.0 would be different enough for me to consider a new mode, but apparently somebody hit the delete button on that, because surely if it were still in existence, we would have gotten it back by now.

New game mode(s) is on the block with simple trading for the next update.
I do not have hope that it will be anything major if anything at all. I am kind of just hoping for a KOTH type mode using the 5 letter maps where it rotates between letters. |

Skirmish 1.0 is an interesting story, I don't remember if anyone ever talked about it publicly though, so I don't know if I can share. But suffice to say its not something that would be manageable to implement in current DUST. There is a new game mode coming, but you may not consider it a big enough difference to count.

I don't have any hope for Dust 514 right now.
If you see the bigger picture, you have a Company (CCP) that had a Product that was pretty much the only contender in the Space Sim genre. This company has lost most of their original developers who created that product. And they have at least two big contenders in the genre to compete with now. If you check eveoffline, you'll see that EVE has a slightly decreasing amount of players. I wouldn't say it's doomed, but they feel the competition already, and Star Citizen isn't even out yet. Also they lost a lot of money on the mmo they recently canceled.
So right now, they have to give the candy to EVE players if they want to stay competitive. Dust is pretty much in stasis, and won't be given any significant funds anytime soon. I doubt that CCP has enough manpower or funds, to stand up to a project like Star Citizen. There will still be people who prefer the griefing grind that EVE is, but there are also loads of players who can't wat to play something different.
If CCP hadn't FUed the development of Dust in such a tragic way, they would have a foothold in the FPS market and could improve with time. Something like real EVE Dust interaction would have been awesome, but it's not even on the horizon. Legion, which seems to turn into vapor ware, was not even going to have a connection to EVE like dust has...
So all in all, I think we shouldn't get our hope up, that this little odd shooter will ever be anything more than a big house of broken promises. |

Please go into detail. You've mentioned that it's going to be a moving objective based mode but what does that mean? Is there any comparable mode in other games? Immediately what comes to mind to me is something like Payload from TF2. Is that an apt comparison?

I don't think its shockingly original of a mode, but it should be a nice change/option for DUST. It's similar to Dom, but with a moving objective. In my book, Domination's overly campy design is kinda lousy, and this should be better because you can't camp the point.

If we can just get a mode where the defenders hold all objectives at the start, and the goal for the attackers is to take all objectives, I would be happy.... |

Damn near everyone knows what Skirmish 1.0 is. That's not NDA in the slightest.
And we're all very aware that the code is vastly different now and doesn't support it as it was.
But there is nothing from stopping a skirmish 3.0 from existing other than choosing to put resources elsewhere.

Not exactly ground breaking but I totally understand they have limited resources. This still sounds like a welcome change to me, something a little different. I still think even just using everything they have right now there would be a few new game modes we could come up with. The true Attackers / Defenders style gamemodes like rush from Battlefield or hell even the old "Assault" game mode from way back in Unreal Tournament 99 / GOTY. I vividly remember that being one of the most popular game modes back on the old Dial Up Modems! Ahh the old days.
A Quick excerpt for those who didn't play the original Unreal Tournament -
Assault: This game type is played with two opposing teams, one assaulting a "base" and the other defending it. The map is set up with a number of objectives which the attacking team must complete (usually in sequence) such as destroying something, entering an area, triggering a button, etc. The team who attacks first, defends in the second round and attempts to defend for the entire time that they attacked. If they can accomplish this, they win the map. If the team defending first assaults the base faster than the other team, they win the map. If both teams defend for the maximum amount of time the map is a tie.

Fantastic game mode, and infantry here would actually be happy because I remember a few of the maps/objectives not supporting tanks, so we'd have to recall and head in on foot.

Actually, if it weren't for the apprehensiveness of both the Shanghai and Reykjavik teams there's A HUGE amount of potential in the future with some of the stuff being put out in EVE, as shown by today's keynote.
The only problem is that we need to fix some stuff on our end, but there's nothing on this side preventing it from happening. Everyone else just wants to sweep us under the rug.
