Frankly it has really stagnated my experience with the game, to the point where I don't even play very often anymore.
Are there any optimists out there that still think we might get some new mode? I know my hope withered and died a very long time ago. I remember a time when people were more vocal about this problem, and for every thread there would be a CPM to instill a false sense of hope with a, "SoonGäó."
But really, we have gotten to the point where totally unnecessary things like super jumping have been added to the game in favor of things we actually need, like game modes. (Not to say the myos are bad, but we could easily have waited so time could better be spent on GAME MODES)
To end, just a little disclaimer here. When I say a new game mode, I mean something different. When domination was added to the game, it wasn't a new game mode, it was just a slight variation on something we already had. I mean something significantly different from what we already have, to break some of the monotony of our two modes. Hell, Skirmish 1.0 would be different enough for me to consider a new mode, but apparently somebody hit the delete button on that, because surely if it were still in existence, we would have gotten it back by now.
I don't have any hope for Dust 514 right now.
If you see the bigger picture, you have a Company (CCP) that had a Product that was pretty much the only contender in the Space Sim genre. This company has lost most of their original developers who created that product. And they have at least two big contenders in the genre to compete with now. If you check eveoffline, you'll see that EVE has a slightly decreasing amount of players. I wouldn't say it's doomed, but they feel the competition already, and Star Citizen isn't even out yet. Also they lost a lot of money on the mmo they recently canceled.
So right now, they have to give the candy to EVE players if they want to stay competitive. Dust is pretty much in stasis, and won't be given any significant funds anytime soon. I doubt that CCP has enough manpower or funds, to stand up to a project like Star Citizen. There will still be people who prefer the griefing grind that EVE is, but there are also loads of players who can't wat to play something different.
If CCP hadn't FUed the development of Dust in such a tragic way, they would have a foothold in the FPS market and could improve with time. Something like real EVE Dust interaction would have been awesome, but it's not even on the horizon. Legion, which seems to turn into vapor ware, was not even going to have a connection to EVE like dust has...
So all in all, I think we shouldn't get our hope up, that this little odd shooter will ever be anything more than a big house of broken promises. |
