Just off the top of my head:

 - Forward 'offense pushes up' map progression (skirmish 1.0)
 - small turret installations
 - 'bunker style' large turret installations
 - old Assault Rifle sound
 - camera sights
 - camera bob when running
 - 3D moving HUD that shifts with your movement
 - an -actual- 3D mini-map that showed the terrain/map
 - battlefield narrator that had personality instead of being robotic pre-recorded messages mashed together
 - decent (if repetitive) battle music
 - high TTK
 - no aim assist
 - better visual effects (assault rifle firing animation and nanohive bubbles)
 - victory conditions that actually make sense
 - warbarge screens that were actually immersive instead of 'insert killboard here'
 - warbarge starmap
 - warbarge 3D wireframe map on center table
 - (what the hell am I talking about) being on the warbarge before a match at all
 - Manus Peak when it wasn't Manus Plateau
 - Dumbfire Swarm Launchers

Out of that the only things I miss dearly are skirmish 1.0 and the TTK.

I'm sure LogicLoop and his team would've come up with some pretty nice maps for skirmish 1.0 that actually fit 32 players. The old map had very big troubles indeed, but the gamemode was solid I believe.

If I had to pick and choose, besides the obvious Skirmish 1.0, I'd like the old TTK back, the music (since it can be turned off anyways), and that old announcer voice back.

"Null Cannon Compromised" sounds better then "Null Cannon Hacked" anyways, but that's just me, and the older voice was easier to listen to imo, reminded me more of a real lady in the WB giving battlefield intel then the monotone AI we have now.

Old TTK, music (immersion), and old contract language (immersion) like "contracted by Quafe Company" instead of just having the name of the corp above the roster. Little change, but felt a bit more immersive. Details details.

No Aim assist and a MMO like character progression is what made this game magical.

To the point where it felt absolutely pointless to take the shrink wrap off brand new Triple A games and put them in..

Because i could just play DUST.. Have as much fun... And in the same process? level and progress my character...

After Uprising launched and the Entire aiming system was TERRIBLE..... It took a while to find the fun again... But it got smoothed out slowly in 1.1, 1.2, 1.3...

Uprising 1.4 came around with Aim assist... And the fun in DUST was gone... The sense of true competition between two people was gone and replaced with frequent squad outbursts of "Fracking aim assist"

PLayers tried everything to find the "Fun" in DUST again... From Heavy PC participation and campaigns to FW... TO Running in full squads and engaging in heavy chat to occupy ones mind from how boring DUST had become.

I Look back upon 3 years of playing this game.. And remember all the features removed, tweaked or added... And when DUST really become "Not Fun" to play anymore...

And the more i look the more it absolutely hinges on Aim assist and then the tweaks they tried to make on it for nearly 2 years....

We went from a highly competitive shooter... Where players actually came from CoD and Battlefield to have a more player vs player competitive atmosphere... To Players considering DUST's Aim assist and TTK a joke and going to play CoD and Battlefield for a more competitive experience...

I Still jump on Kilzone:Shadowfall and see hundreds of old DUST players competing in the same group there against the same talented FPS players because it has no Aim assist... Same group or would be corporations who used to challenge every player that played DUST.

There hasn't been a worse feature added to polarize a community and make people quit cold turkey.. than Aim assist.

Being CCP we thought they weren't gonna go the CoD Route.. and build a shooter that required players to compete with their purchased assets un assisted by computer tracking software... We where wrong about that, and wrong about CCP.

Video showing the Old Manus Peak (with weather effects and more spiky rock formations!) and a GLORIOUS example of the old sound effects which, in my opinion, were much better as a whole. If it's one thing Closed Beta had down for immersion it was the sound.

I don't think anyone is forgetting the problems with Closed Beta but a healthy part of nostalgia is remembering the good things and being able to use that as the basis for future planning. No-one is suggesting we bring back the unanimously bad things, just the good things.

No no, I'm talking about what we have now. I loved hearing 'Surplus of Rare Artifacts' as the login theme, was soothing. Then the battle music actually -felt- like Sci-fi instead of just being annoying.

When (if ever) Dust gets a healthy sized development team again, I believe we shoule try and convince them to make the game feel more like closed beta. In terms of visual effects, TTK, The goddamn actual useful minimap rather than this sonnar wannbe thing we have and use, more maps that play out like Crater Lake, etc...

We could say Beta was bad because of this or that...

But the numbers speak LOUDLY for when DUST was more enjoyable... The Player population DUST 514 enjoyed in Open Beta(Chromosome) Was over 15k player peaks.

Uprising launched.. We never broke 10k players again. They spent very very little time on core mechanics and spent all their time doing a graphic and fidelity upgrades to DUST.

With all the suits in DUST.... The game is still boring as hell and revolves around a few cookie cutter builds.

PS3's caught fire running Carbon engine at CCP Shanghai? There was never a report of a client's PS3 catching fire running DUST 514 in closed beta.
