I haven't been in any good CQC tank fights since I started playing in late 1.6/early 1.7 (CQC railgun Sica, good times). Any advice for engaging other tanks up close and personal? I like ramming, but that's pretty much all I know.

Ramming doesn't work. You just go on top of them/the go on top of you. Useful in a pinch, but doesn't do damage anymore.

Focus on flanking and using avenues that are not commonly in use by other players. These avenues usually put you in positions where you can over look the main avenues that players use and most commonly the average tanker.

Using these you want to get the jump on your opponent and hammer them from that position using superior forward/backwards movement speed to get around behind their turrets.

Remember you can't take damage if their turret can't keep up with you.

Avoid the main roads. People love using paved roads for some reason: use this to your advantage. Ambush them when they pass by.
Do not engage until you are well within your optimal. You need to get as much damage done before they know what's going on and they begin to react. Attack too far out and you give your opponent more option to react to you.
Fuel injector is your friend. Never leave home without it.
Gunners are even better friends. Get yourself some small rails, even standard, and you can win the vast majority of fights with other tankers. Me personally, I prefer small blasters to help engage infantry or jihad jeeps.

Oooooh let me draw a paint picture of gunners to go along with the ones above.

Gunners also can cover areas you aren't meaning it's harder for other tankers or AV to get the drop on you.
One more thing: USE THE OVERHEAD MAP. Down on the D-Pad. You can see enemy tanks moving around on it. Always, always, ALWAYS find time to check your overhead map.

Another paint picture coming up...but those last two are common sense not Blaster Specific tactics.

Furl injector with blaster turret rotation is the bees knees. The turn speed of the rail gun I feel is still a bit too fast from what it used to be in the era of good tanks.
As long as 5/6 (83%) of infantry AV weapons are Anti Armor based you're never going to achieve vehicle balance CCP

You have to "orbit" them at close range. Blasters have way faster tracking than the other turrets, especially with pro. 5. Use this to your advantage.

With the turn angle on Armour HAV this cannot be achieved. On a Shield HAV with its tighter turning arc and receptive static tracking it's more than doable.

Real men tank. Sissies **** around on foot not defending their own turrets, CRU, or Supply Depots whining miserably that because they neglected their toys and forgot to feed the dog they are sad that the responsible adults grounded them and took away their stuff.

Oh, real men sit in hunks of metal with over 2000 armor and nearly instant kills against infantry?
Wow, manliness has really declined.

My advice is, if you're using an OP Madruga build, you've won anyway, so tactics aren't needed... Unless the other guy is also using said build, then you just gotta hit them more than they hit you and get ready to shoot them as they jump out with av nades and swarms.

That's not even mildly true, you can flip a tank and it usually bones anything that has shields if you turbo into them. |
