I have been playing for a few days and tested different characters, but the moment i unlock normal battles i simply cannot kill anyone, and keep getting killed almost instantly.
I did some research on skills, type of weapons and so on, but the fact remains that it's really difficult to even break someone's shield, and i die almost instantly when my enemy starts firing.
I'm sure i'm doing something wrong, but i cant find out how to improve my chances. And now that i cant enter academy battles, my ISK income was reduced to 1/4 and obtaining better equipment is getting difficult.
Any tips? |

Highly recommend looking for a corporation to join to roll with some squads. Teammates help a lot for learning early on while you're skilling up. Generally this will mean you need to have a mic and be willing to communicate though. If you're unsure about joining a group the channel Learning Coalition is a good place to start to get to know people.
Otherwise if you're a lone wolf at heart... Well it will be tough but even my ****** gun game gets me a few kills in my starter fits.

i recommend you go into dropsuit fittings, create a new dropsuit.
any heavy frame but amarr is the best. Use armor plates on the heavy frame and fit a heay machine gun with a sub-machine gun. If the map is big, a HMG does not have range.
any medium frame with a combat rifle, the basic one. Just go into your skill tree, level up light weapon operation to I then combat rifle operation to I
to unlock dropsuits that are better than militia, go into dropsuit command, level it up to 3, then choose any one to start skilling into.
Heavy frames are slow and have high health but bad regeneration stats Medium frames are not slow, but not fast. You can change what modules (armor plates shield extenders) to put on them and they can have high regeneration stats OR high health, but not both at the same time.
Don't worry about light frames as they are hard to understand. Just watch this guys videos to know what a light frame feels like. If you unlock advanced light frames you can start to skill into a scout dropsuit, which is the best light frame there is. Cyrius Li-Moody

You aren't doing anything wrong, unfortunately this is how the game currently is.
Lots of veterans have tens of millions of SP, and new players simply have a hard time competing on that level.
My suggestion would be to play Skirmish, and hack things. This gets you WP and still helps the team even if you can't really be a slayer at this point.

Any double entendre is unintended I assure you.

Salutations, LordLaguz. Okay, um, brace yourself for what I am about to suggest: Yes, you are likely doing it wrong. But it's okay. Battle Academy means well, but doesn't teach you what New players need to learn about fighting in Dust. You've gotten lots of advice from players around you, and you will continue to get the same advice (not quite the kind of advice I am about to contribute), and their advice had good intentions, but is only helping you get shot, squashed, and feel victimized.
There is a Chat Channel IN THE GAME. Type LEARNING COALITION in the chat search menu, and join that channel. They are NOT some corp asking for you to join. The are vet players who take players into "classroom squads" and practice fittings and techniques that protect you in combat.
Protection of yourself was the first thing you (EVERYONE who wants to get clever in Dust fights) needed to know. Vets used to tell me, forget trying to unlock suits and guns! They said:
1--"First spend your SP unlocking the SKILLS that increase the protective properties of the free starter suits you were given, while you practice ways to run in your starter suit on a Dust map without getting shot at" (takes LOTS of practice, but that's what you have to do first)
2--"THEN, begin using SP to develop the Dropsuit+modules that you feel will protect you while you're doing your job". (This means unlocking the modules to completely fit out that suit---no SP spent on fancy guns yet)
3--"THEN, at the last stage, is when you start using SP to find the weapon you like the most for your work"
This weird sequence is needed because in Dust, players who rely on better fighting habits, have better chances than those players trying to rely on a higher suit and weapon.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

You tend to survive longer in an assault suit, if you can skill into it. The others...you evaporate if the other guy even looks your way. It's not great game design, IMO.
You might want to rove around in blaster tanks (or sica tanks for long range sniping) or LAV's while using a LAV scanner to show your side where the enemy is. Or drive around in a LAV while in a heavy suit with a machine gun, jumping out next to enemies you find out on the road. That's super annoying to everyone involved.
Or just do some sniping (use a LAV to get to various sniping spots and to hide behind while aiming).
But to be honest, I think the game just lacks a certain level of enjoyment. I think if there was a warbarge upgrade that gave you warpoints for hitting enemies at all (no kill needed), it'd add a lot to gameplay.

nope you're screwed, no need to sugar coat at this point. Not only do you need proficiency 5 in you main weapon- in addition, you must now have the "damage subsystem" leveled up to 5 as well. |

a very accessible fit to you is gallente medium basic, you need to skill into enhanced armor plates and run 2, 1 basic or MLT armor rep, breach AR/SMG.. you wont score phenomenal but you can break postive KDR if you pic your fights right.. from there you can skill into whatever but i had success with this fit on an alt.. i think you have also a high slot available..
minmatar speed fits require a lot of SP but the one i mentioned is a low SP fit that can take some abuse
it wont be easy but the gal medium basic is your best option for now.. running dual reps is also good but not until you can run complex. dual repping allows you to tank rifle weapons but it opens you up to alpha strike weps (MD, SG, Sniper rifle) if you planning to run solo i suggest skilling into a methana LAV and try to run a rep rate of at least 90 on it, it's not vehicle to stand and take shots tho you need to get moving as soon as it starts taking damage but with a rep rate of 90 it will have you back repped fully in 30 seconds.. you scan for stragglers jump them and if doesn't work with the first few seconds out then you just re-renter and drive off..
also the caldari MLT heavy might work but you eventually want to get out of it as it's big and slow.. you'll be able to soak up some damage tho. and this suit requires no SP and is probably the best goto suit for newb but it will be some time before you start scoring big but the game can still be fun if your not one of the top players. no suit is the end all suit there's a counter to most every fit and the trick is to know what your counter is and avoid that and to pursue the enemy you know your built to take down |
