I haven't really had -that- much of an issue with the bunny hopping but one thing I would like to suggest is to make it a little bit more intuitive. Here's what I mean.
When you press the 'x' button - or tap it, rather - you should only jump slightly. Enough to get over those little inclines, sort of like a true hop. It shouldn't take up an incredible amount of stamina and it shouldn't be high enough of a jump to disrupt aiming.
Now let's say if you held it down, and then released it; it would be more of a stamina impacting -leap- than just a hop. I know that bunny hopping is difficult for opposing players, especially on a console with it's jerky aim movements, but if it's that big of a deal the easiest solution would be to make the jump variable.
Armor plating reduces movement speed, so it should also reduce jump height as it increases mass.
Just a few thoughts. |

Awesome sauce. As a Shotgun Scout, I thoroughly hope the ability to bunny hope remains in the game, it's our greatest defense in CQC if you ask me. Nothing like jumping up over a heavy, blasting him as you go, landing behind him and strafing around him, showering him with shotgun shells while he struggles to target you. Then, he explodes, I laugh and collect my points as I run off to cap the objective while taking out 6-7 others, if not more |

I completely agree. I think the Scouts ability to jump higher is an intended game mechanic to help deal with poor defenses.
Also if you've ever seen a heavy try to jump, its kinda hilarious. |

Sometimes I'll switch from my Scout to my Heavy, then I'll be "running" towards a small box and go to jump, then be all like....awww...and kind of sulk as I walk around it
The speed difference is really disorienting as well >_< |

Gallente Scout should be the -only- dropsuit that can bunny hop.. Just saying. I want to have a difficult time killing the finicky little ****er because he keeps moving around; unfortunately because of their lack of defense, they're easier to kill than the Assault Suit as they can both perform about the same movement wise.
Honestly, I ran dual Kinetic Catalysers and would sprint away from my enemy; swing around and catch him off guard with a burst of perpetual assault-rifle death. Works great; provided I'm in the canyons and not in the middle of the desert.

No suit can sustain jumping forever, even a drop suit. They seem to have the balance for stamina between the suits pretty well balanced already. |

Given that they mentioned webbers being used on vehicles at fanfest - how about an AOE webber to slowdown infantry / reduce jump height.
Wont help a heavy as they cant carry equipment (so it cant be a grenade) so a heavy will need assault backup to drop a webber for them.
People decry bunny hopping but its been around so long its ingrained into every FPSers soul. There will be a massive outcry from the CoD/MW lot if it was out. And because its always been there everybody learns to live with it and develop stategies to counter it.
Two words that stuck out at fanfest in the Dust gameplay sections were reactive and adaptive. I'd like to throw in a 3rd - dynamic. Or a phrase "Mutate and survive" Or to paraphrase Einstein? "it is the height of stupidity to repeat an action and expect a different result" All in all if something isnt working for you - change fit, playstyle, spawn point, whatever.
And remember stuff that doesnt/cant work in a random match of people will be DEADLY when employed by well organised teams. See a heavy getting strafed by a scout? Just chuck a grenade at the right point and your heavy buddy will be wiping bits of scout from his armor faster than the scout can scream "Nooooo!" Might be a bit more tricky when/if weapons have full effect on team mates....
It strikes me that DEVs probably get a great kick out of designing a system of gameplay and then handing to players to see what amazing emergent behaviour develops from the players themselves. Just look at the Eve alliance tournament, sometimes teams take to the field and people have no idea whats going to happen. And thats on a battlefiled that all contestants can shoot across if they chose with 15 a side. What will the emergent behaviour be at 48 per side on a battlefield it would take 5/10 mins to walk across and weapon ranges are defined in fractions of the size of overall battlefield? This is going to be truly fascinating from a player and dev point of view. |

Make excessive jumping discourageable by:
1. Each successive jump will consume more stamina and lower jump height. If the argument is that we're super soldiers, then stamina bar is pointless in the first place.
2. When jump up in air, your targeting reticle sways erratically similar to how sniper's railgun sways much when ADS or something (didn't use much of DUST railguns).
3. When you land after a jump, you're forced to bend your knees to absorb landing impact (your view will also lower down) and also to balance yourself from topple over or barrelroll. This will force you to momentarily "stop" when landing, thus making you "vulnerable". When you were in running motion and jump, the "stop" last longer than when you stood still and jumped. By the way, barrelrolling is a nice idea but force longer "stopping" moment at the end of barrelrolling. Though it leave much to the imagination how our first person's view will be like hahaha
However super we are, we're not immune to the laws of physics. I'm interpreting dropsuits as stated by CCP:http://www.dust514.com/universe/technology/ wrote:Survival on the Battlefield
The mercenary soldiers of DUST 514Gäó enter combat wearing dropsuits designed to protect them from both the elements and enemy fire. With a variety of specialized designs available, different dropsuits offer specific bonuses to speed, mobility, defense and configurability. Like starships and planetary vehicles, each dropsuit design come with a unique slot configuration and powergrid (PG) and CPU that permit a range of customizations. The number and type of slots determine the modules, weapons, and equipment that can be fitted
I have no loves for annoying jumpers. I pretty much find jumpers exist in any games that have jump function. There are people who will jump and jump and jump for no reason other than to entertain their bored selves, and intentionally or not, annoy others.
I thank CCP very much for disabling jumping in the MQ and war room. |
