I know they're supposed to be weaker to make heavy Drive-bys less appealing, but really? I just spend half a match one shotting someone's Quafe LAVs out of the air with my Adv plasma cannon. Sure I laughed my ass off the entire time but common that's ridiculous, what incentive is there to even spec into LAVs now knowing full well you'll be one shotted by just about anyone.

Small blasters are better and their scan range is larger so there's that. They also have better fitting capacity. Which is more incentive than they had before.
Also, actually well fitted high meta LAVs would probably perform better than that unmanned possibly unfitted Quafe LAV did.

2 Lows, 1 High, and vice versa. I don't know how "Well Fitted" you can get something with such restricted slot layouts, and locked at STD level. Shield LAVs are just free points, and a methana with at least a complex armor plate would survive at the most one plasma round from a proto PLC. I'm not seeing much room for improvement besides skipping the repper/recharger and going for brick tanked single use LAVs.
