Simple question really.
How do people feel about people being able to throw REs from heights? I don't really have an opinion on the tactic, but I feel that it may not be working as intended. I regularly see people throw REs from rooftops onto points or choke points to clear them from high points and feel that these distances seem a little too far to be realistic.
If this is considered a problem, is it possible to add fall damage to equipment?
If this is not a problem, are people happy with the use of this tactic?
On a slightly different point, how do people feel about the power level of basic REs? They are probably the most effective basic equipment in the game and the only ones that regularly see use in PC.
As this is the case, do people feel that their fitting cost is appropriate?

Personally I hate re's they are over powered against heavy's. What is it 1200 damage on the basic. That kills all infanty just leaving a proto heavy with maybe 100-200 amror. They are often hard to spot being placed in hidden corners . Also I have no clue about the price on them but the fact that with 1 press of a button he can one shot my 156,000isk suit |

They just need a small nerf to blast radius. If they are relaly meant to be used for setting traps it should require a bit more skill to set. This would also help a little bit on the fact that they are easy mode kills when standing on high ground.
I think this will really become needed once carried equipment gets buffed and scouts have nearly unlimited REs. |

Use active scanners to avoid RE's if spammed in battle. I try to blow up as many proto's as I can. and I think my RE suit cost about 1800 ISK now (with krins' BPO mod)

fall damage to equipment is a reasonable concept but id think hives and links would be more susceptible than a lump of plastic explosive with a detonator. theory-wise its reasonable to have them dropped from height.
DPS wise i think they're fine. They're a valid counter for heavies that otherwise have little to worry about. Any nerf to damage would need to be balanced with a reduction to fitting costs for higher meta RE's.
I do wish the activate delay time was fixed though, they're being used as grenades rather than traps.

REs exist and I have accepted that, but I am not sure that throwing them off high buildings is working as intended from a gameplay point of view.
If means that they are 'nades with infinite range when you aim downwards, this seems odd from a design standpoint.
This is another way of looking at it:
The risk of REs is that they must be thrown at short range and take time to activate.
The reward is massive damage.
The current deployment of REs from high places eliminates the risk involved by eliminating the need to get close in certain situations (EG when on a rooftop above a point).
If we were in a situation where sniper rifles were effective up close in certain situations I would be making a similar argument.
The risk of using a sniper rifle is that if the enemy closes the distance it is poor.
The reward is that at long range the sniper rifle does massive damage.
If; for example, the tac sniper was highly effective up close when facing heavies, we would recognize the problem and seek to address it.
SO, with all of that in mind,
Is the current situation where REs can be thrown from a height down on a group of enemies regardless of range, working as intended?

You are able to drop nanohives and uplinks from height as well.
There was a time when you couldn't... now you can drop a uplink out of an MCC and it will deploy on the ground.
I guess the difference is, no one get's killed when an uplink or nanohive fall on them, so no QQ
Personally, I have no issues with how RE's function.

Oh you are right! I forgot about the uplinks!
Is there any reason why fall damage was taken out in the first place?

after awhile you can start to predict where scouts will place re's. for example, objective A in meat grinder map: you know they will throw them from the vent on the street so stand south from A at all times. Objective A from the new map, you know they are going to throw them from the cat walks if your team isn't holding the catwalk so don't stand there. you know they throw them down staircases so don'tt stand there, etc. as some dude suggested run an active scanner or run with a squad who runs one, as 80% of this game has become defense against scouts it's necessary. just like a warbardge though, expect to lose a clone or two from re's any given match |

My main problem is it is still 2 seconds from throwing until detonation, should it not be 5?? |
