I get stomped a lot and it doesn't take a PRO to do it. However, I hear so much angst about "protostomping" -- to the point I'm afraid people will stop playing this game I love -- that I've been trying to think of a way to ameliorate the situation for us chronic underdogs.
Would it be possible to grant damage points against PRO dropsuits similar to those awarded against vehicles? To wit:
ADV dropsuit versus PRO 10 wp if you get PRO's shields below 50% before you die or retreat 20 wp if you get PRO's armor below 50% before you die or retreat
STD dropsuit versus PRO 20 wp if you get PRO's shields below 50% before you die or retreat 30 wp if you get PRO's armor below 50% before you die or retreat
MLT dropsuit versus PRO 30 wp if you get PRO's shields below 50% before you die or retreat 40 wp if you get PRO's armor below 50% before you die or retreat
(Note that the more underdoggy the suit used in the encounter, the greater the point compensation.)
If an underdog actually kills a PRO the underdog would get to loot the PRO, with the loot displayed on the End Of Match screen along with salvage. Loot could be determined as follows:
ADV suit-wearer gets PRO's sidearm, grenade or equipment x1 added to assets STD suit-wearer gets PRO's primary weapon x1 added to assets MLT suit-wearer gets PRO's dropsuit x1 added to assets
Looting wouldn't apply in cases where PRO dies as a result of a warbarge strike. However, the damage points would be apportioned to multiple players who work together to bring down a PRO. Only the player who gets the kill would be able to "loot the suit" though.
I think awarding damage points and loot against PROs would help prevent player despair, rage-quits, and timid clones going AWOL during matches once they see who they're up against. It would also maybe make the most arrogant PROs more circumspect about swaggering out among the grunts. (Note: I have not personally experienced any nasty PROs; I just hear about them here.)
There are few people less tech-savvy than I am, so I don't know if any of this is programmatically possible to do. But I think something along these lines would give heart to new or impecunious players, try-not-so-hards, and folks like me: vets who can't shoot fer sheesh. |
