I have complete respect for the eve's "Your decisions matter" approach to the skill tree and character creation but still understand some players are only human and capable of making mistakes on their accounts.
players don't want others to be able to be able to change character traits whenever they want to or move around the skill tree willy nilly. that this takes away from the point of making those decisions in the first place.
On the other hand there are a hand full of players who are stuck with character decisions they only realised later they didn't want and are permanently stuck with these just because "they didn't do the research" which is unfair to those players who don't want to or have the time to site down and read every scrap of info on a game BEFORE they play it.
In an effort to see both sides I've thought of a solution that should meet a middle ground that suits everyone.
Why not give every player a single use per account forgiveness token they can trade in to reset their character information. this can only be used ONCE and never again on that account. (dust 514 allready has a skill tree reset in the shop so it wouldn't need to affect the skill tree) It allows players who have made mistakes when initially setting up there character to fix those mistakes without upsetting the playerbase who don't want players to be able to change things every other week from doing so.
Thoughts?

I agree. I think once the Academy is working properly, players leaving the Academy should be given a single Respec Token that cannot be traded or sold. Your decisions should matter, but as a fresh new player, you're often not educated/experienced enough in the mechanics of the game to make good decisions, and we shouldn't punish new players for that, especially in the early stages where SP is far more critical.

This isn't a suggestion for the skill tree, its a suggestion for recreating your characters faction and lore, it effects your current station, your office and what faction you wish to associate yourself with in the game lore

Uh, while I like the idea, I think many people simply don't care about which station, faction, etc.. they're in. I chose Caldari (I am one of those people who knows nothing about the EVE universe) but I use Amarr suits. The guys who want to play this game for background can simply start a new character. You've got 3 slots for a reason. Those who just want to shoot stuff really don't care about the background stuff and choose whichever stuff they like, be it the looks (Caldari, that stuff looks awesome) or play style (Amarr. That armor hp!)
So I like the idea, and I'd support it, but I know there's tons op people out there who'd rather have a free skill reset, because we've all made mistakes in the tree, and not all of us have the means or financial security to spend even 15$ (or whatever the equivalent in your local currency is) to fix a stupid mistake made out of ignorance.
That's my humble opinion, as a casual FPS gamer who cares not for background. |

And for those players that have 20 mil + SP and don't want to start a new character?

I'd also like to commend that the term "Forgiveness Token" makes me giggle.
Newberry: "Oh no I skilled the wrong thing!" Lord Rattati: "YOU HAVE DISAPPOINTED ME FOR THE LAST TIME!" Newberry: "OH GOD SENPAI I'M SORRY! I'LL NEVER DO IT AGAIN! FORGIVE ME!" Lord Rattati: "Fine. You get one forgiveness token. Next time I will devour your wallet."

But overall this is a good idea.
I don't think anyone who's been around since beta should get one, but I can see it being more useful than not for new player retention.

One of the largest oversite I think CCP have done is ignore playerbase growth and new player retention. which is a pity for an MMO universe that SOULD be full of players

Although it may seem like you may have made a bad decision, somewhere down the road you may actually use the skill again. For instance when you have run out of there things to train (made the choice 6 mo ago to train HMG) you may decide now is the time to train a Heavy dropsuit. All skills are useful, its a matter of just using them and not worrying about one bad choice yesterday, make the most of it tomorrow.
Closed Beta Vet, lots of experience with respecs, in fact every patch we used to do one.

Again I repeat, this thread is about a players character lore, background, race, bloodline, home system and office. The token is to be traded in to let the player redesign their character, NOT the skill tree.

Not really useful, sorry not sure that you understand its about a choice, kills recorded and such, you really want to go back to the test tube, make a new toon.

Like many other's I decided to play the game for a while to decide If I liked it, got use to the micanics and decided to support the game and bought a few things in the shop here and there.
I later got interested in the lore and want to play as a caldari, I was also never made aware that your race and bloodline effect your office and absolutly hate the gallente one, its ugly.
I could hardly reset and start again when I was on +10 mil SP and had allready spend money. There are a significant number of other players in the same situation. Kinda sucks every time I log in.
