In my experience, they are wastly unpopular and considered very cheap by a huge part of this community.
So, what's the real issue here?
In my opinion its not the throwing distance, the damage or its blast radius. They're all fine.
My main beef with them is the time delay from when its deployed until it can be activated. If anybody knows, I'd really like to get an exact time for this delay. I don't have remotes so I simply don't have the experience.
Many times lately this scenario happens:
I hear the little flute like sound of one being dropped, I imediately move to get away as fast as possible, Boom, it goes off, killing me before I can move out of its blast radius.
Is this really how its intended to be? An offensive explosive weapon? Like some sort of grenade+? For me it seems to be more natural for it to be a weapon for defense, trapping, AV, general trolling and not least taking out that guy chasing you around the corner.
Now I constantly se a lot of (mostly scrubby) scouts using it more or less as their primary offensive weapon. Run in dampened at high speed, throw them in someone's face, detonate while running away, rinse and repeat. Quality gameplay indeed...
Increase the delay between it being dropped to it can be detonated and I'm sure the QQ will mostly go away and it might even take some skill to use them.

Flying time + time when you hear 'beep' = delay
At this 'beep' means you are dead, because no time for reaction. Eg scout is far far away from blast zone and counter is alerady at the end.
Optimal we need two 'beeps' :) - one - when charge land/placed - two - when is ready.
Not much time left...

so the answer is a bugfix? they're already supposed to have a 5sec delay.
GL waiting for that.
they are a cheapshot kill, but its all relative; taking out a heavy in a murder taxi with one is pure justice.

All deployable equipments position update too late, the sound is not always played immediately, this make hard to predict where RE will be placed and when it has been dropped.

It is 5s. It counts from the moment of your throw. So click R1 - timer goes on. You get it?
And something for end. RE - the only counter for crowds in tight spaces [towns, closed objectives]. Mainly for sentinels.
I'm not talking about single sentinels/targets. When there are 2-3 of them next to each other, you can only do 2 things to counter them. Throw RE or use Sentinel suit.

I poop RE's like any Matari Scout afraid of getting insta-popped by .. every weapon in the game Don't get me wrong, I am aware how scrubby it is, but that is usually the chosen meta in combat (be a scrub)
delay in activation would help a lot, no more 360 bunny-hop RE tossing in CQC.. it's about time As it stands, I toss an RE, as soon as it lands I can detonate.. there is no delay other than the time to set it This is messed up, and should not be a viable way to defend yourself, but I'm 1 in 100 that do it often
fixes, while not putting scrubs like me out of a job..
- Deploy animation, make it similar to using a nanite injector (RE user is then exposed while setting)
- Activation delay, minimum of 5 seconds
Other than that, not many changes keep them as they should be (lethal explosives) while balancing the 'spam' ability in CQC which is a big issue with RE's

You may be right on delay, but it needs to begin from when it is set, not as soon as its thrown .. also you are 100% correct, they are not just for lone Heavies/targets, they disrupt crowds in no time at all
which is worse?? and RE spammer, who can be scanned, shot and killed or a crowd of upto 1000ehp circle jerkers, blapping anyhting in their path ...
One has a counter, for the other.. you might need a tank lol |

I skilled into REs yesterday just to try this out.
I dropped the RE from a roof, and detonated it about 2 seconds later. It's definitely not a 5 second delay. |
