I find that at least 5 times a match (and at most +100 times) that the game freezes for a second or two (sometimes +5) and leaves me defenseless and any time it happens around an enemy I'm dead by the time the game unfreezes. I'm assuming this isn't a problem on my end from what I've heard from other players. Is there any way to lessen the severity or am I going to be stuck with the magic pause button for forever?

Actually, this may be at your end. I had the same problem of freezing for a few seconds every 5-10 seconds in battle which obviously made it rather difficult to play. Eventually the skipping made it's way to my merc quarters, as well.
Unfortunately, they only way to fix it was to get a new HD for my ps3.
Hopefully, your problem's not the same as mine was, but it just might be. |

It does actually happen in the merc quarters and menus. And getting a new harddrive isn't really in my budget. Anyway (and i assume this is either extremely impractical or illegal) is there any way I could possibly run dust from a disc?

Had the same problem a long while back. Reason why my kdr is so low. Only fixed by installing a spare hdd i had lying around. Just get a cheap 80gb(5.4k rpm), theyre throwaway these days. |

I might try that out. Depending on how cheap I can get one. I just don't like the description of "throwaway"....kind of concerns me.

http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-Support/Restoring-your-PS3-File-System-amp-Database-Helps-to-Maintain/td-p/37322987 literally just tried this and noticed a difference. it's not new harddrive difference but it definitely helped with the skipping and freezing. hopes this helps anyone else having problems. maybe now i can actually get in a gunfight without standing still until im im dead.

After playing the game for a while I've noticed a major difference in the amount of times I'm skipping and freezing. I'm able to use the playstations terrible keyboard thing without it constantly. I can use the menus without any lag or having to repress buttons. And the amount of times I'm freezing in game is ridiculously low compared to the 100+ times I was before. If you're having problems like I was you really should try this before buying a new HDD or even and SSD. It's free ffs.

If you have a bunch of unused games on your HDD, you might try dumping them and redoing the DB (whatever) thing that Sony recommends. Most operating systems like some room on a HDD. Also, if you do pry some money loose, Do Not Use a 7200RPM Drive. It will overheat and will most likely puke. Either a solid state drive or a laptop 5400. Sony has a page on their website about replacing the HDD. If you can pry the cash loose, check it out first.
Don't forget to clean the dust out of your system. Don't delete the game. Just the cat fur and junk that plugs the cooling vents/holes in your PS3.
My favorite tank is a Lightning. Just sayin.

Dust is literally the only thing on the harddrive other than the system software. And I'm allergic to cats so no worries there. And as far as getting a new harddrive goes....why spend $100 to make one game work properly?

In my case, however, the skipping started in battles, made it's way to my merc quarters, then eventually found it's way to every other game I tried to play (downloaded or on a disc, it didn't matter). Kind of sucked...
By the way, $100!? The hell kind of HDD are you looking at? I got a 320Gb for about $40. Then the seller gave me the wrong one and then sent me the right one for free after I mailed the wrong one back. |

One cause of that happening is the Gallente Lag Facility:
1) enter the facility 2) exit 3) re-enter facility.
Result: now your rest of the match suffers from those regular minifreezes.
Looking at both sides of the coin.
Even Aurum one.

It's not just the GLF. It's much worse than just that. This is literally as I'm walking through the merc quarters and working my way through the menus.

DUST is really the only thing I use my ps3 for. The only thing on my ps3 is DUST and keeping it that way has completely improved my performance. If you're in a similar situation I suggest doing a full format.

If you're in a similar situation I suggest doing a full format. Rebuilding database and filesystem has also helped performance for me significantly. My PS3's harddrive is mostly empty though, too.
I will periodically repeat the database and filesystem cleanup from now. |
