This may not be a cool topic to wade into, but "Redlining" is a subject that will always be around.
Especially among Newberrys and Advanced-players----but with different points of view.
So, I think (THINK) it's a good idea to mention in our posts whether you are a new player (Newberry) and are being redlined often----or if you are speaking as an Advance-player who believes the Redlining should not be allowed to exist in the game, for gameplay reasons.
IF you're speaking as an advance player, Canarius (btw, your character name is pretty cool, I like it ), then I believe that getting Redlined by the other team is a very valid event that the game should continue to allow. I only say this because getting Redlined is COMPLETELY avoidable once the majority of players on your team realize the simple things that cause it. Being too predictable about how you first enter the battleground and how long you stand in that "safe backfield area" after you've spawned/MCC'd.
Lingering in the same staging areas time and time again while you call in an RDV, or while you decide what you which direction you will start your assault first.
Deciding to "stay and defend the home goal post" in this match, (without first LOOKING to see if two or three of your fellow mercs have already chosen that same strategy--so now too many players have chosen to be protective goalie at the same time).
Deciding to operate one of the home-defensive gun Installations (this is only a good idea when you see NO ONE else is manning them---and even then, you SELDOM need to man a home-installation for the entire match).
In short, Thor's comment contains a lot of painful truth: Redlining is a sort of "punishment of combat" that your side gets ONLY when they don't get in the good habit of mobilizing out from the staging area as soon as they start the match. It's okay for a 2 or 3 players to get good at "home defense", but everyone else MUST get out there doing all they can to keep the battlefield open. I have played Dust for nearly 2 years now (yes, I'm an adv player),.. but have only gotten caught in two of those Redlines--two was enough for me to make sure I can never be caught again--they were a HORROR.
IF you're speaking as a Newberry, Canarius, please just remember the causes I listed above----and keep in mind that combat in Dust is about "controlling access around the playing-map". Quickly move away from the MCC and the home-CRUs and find a hiding-place further into the battleground before you park to strategize or study the situation.
Try not to just run passed a CRU without making sure it's blue--every blue CRU keeps a door open for your friends. If they still end up loitering around in the staging area and get Redlined, hey, there's nothing you can do for them. But at least you will NOT be trapped along with them.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...
