Melee damage is kind of... weak. A prototype Assault suit tends to have no less than 700 HP, that's the low end. The melee on said Assault suit? 110 damage. That's 7 hits to kill a single low end HP suit with base melee damage. Other suits are just as pathetic, with scouts having the least and Sentinels having the most, but not enough.
And I hear you say "But myo stims!". Myo stims are percentage based, that means that the low base melee damage makes the rather hefty bonus of 75% on myo stims still fairly low. It ups the Assault from 110 damage to 190 damage using one. That's down from 7 hits to 4. Now remember, each melee costs stamina, so you will probably run out of stamina before you can dish out 4 attacks... Assuming you're not dead meat by the time you do it.
So alright, you stack another one, and that brings your melee up to 310. That's neat, that's 3 hits to kill a 700HP suit. But oh wait, what's that? With two high slots I could have an extra 13% damage on my weapon? That has infinitely more range? Why should I use those two slots for a situational melee that to use, you need to be in range that practically never happens unless you're a shotgun/NK scout?
And that's the problem. You need to stack these mods to have any DECENT effect. Using just one isn't worth it, ever.
If all suits had their melee upped by 50%: 1st mod - 288 damage 2nd mod - 476 damage
That's a LOT more appealing, and might even be worth switching up your tactics to get close enough for a hit, rather than be a safe 8-20m away that most people fight at.

Now that I have your attention, ccp could just add back in the melee damage boost myfoib skilling used to provide, was 10% a level, iirc. Maybe even buff that little, to 13-17% . Point is, re-adding the passive boost rewards skilling myofibs, making them more of a Core Skill type of investment and it easily boosts that base melee value that gets the module multiplier when equipped.

There's a 10% bonus per level that applies to the myofibril stimulants. It doesn't apply directly to your melee.

Thats what I'm saying maybe they could bring back: the 10% per level applied directly to melee, before the percentages from module use. That passive boost to melee was why I originally put SP into myo's in the first place.

As much as I love melee fits and sort of... mostly kind of completely... agree with this post, I can't help but think that melee might be downright OP if it got that large of a buff... I'm already doing 550 damage a punch in my Minmatar assault, 450 in my Minmatar scout. That's quite a bit of damage. Granted, neither of those suits have a massive amount of health, but their ability to kill high HP suits quickly is nearly unrivaled... or would be, were it not for the **** hit detection... I suppose it would be nice to not have to fit a suit entirely for melee just to make use of it, but... eh, screw it. Buff that ****!

The thing is... We don't want to supplant Nova Knives.
Melee should be objectively worse than Nova Knives. Right? Melee should be more of a reflex/backup than a viable primary damage dealing "item", since everyone has it. It isn't something you have to equip, like Knives are. Knives take up a slot.
Or am I wrong in thinking this? Who knows.

As long time user of M+¬l+¬e I feel it is fine damage wise. Given that you can use it in tandem with a weapon you don't need to equip it and can use it at all times.
The biggest issue m+¬l+¬e has is that the hit detection is meh. Granted it is better now then it ever was before when blue shielding was common on nearly all hits even on stationary targets.

I'm cool with upping base melee damage. I don't want the destiny OHK style of play, i've seen it, and i really,, really hate destiny's PvP. But i prefer melee to be the last desperate option rather than dancing and trying to reload. Makes those fights really gritty.
I don't think it will impact Nova Knives use, N.Ks have 2.5 meter range, ADV NKs on an ADV Min Scout can one hit most medium frames and all scout frames.
Redline for Thee, but no Redline for Me.

Without equipping any modules, even with a 100% buff melee would still be pathetic. Even with this buff unless you stack like 4-5 myo stims, it will still do less damage than knives.

You sacrifice way too much for "Usable" melee. I don't want melee that one shots people, but I do want it to hurt if I put on a single myo stim. Something like a Commando, their base melee hurts a lot.

As a cat, I'd think you'd know fish can't melee, use guns or throw grenades. Unless... What the hell kind of fish are you going after O_____O?
I don't see an issue with increasing melee damage, I often see someone standing still and go to melee them, but find I have to finish them off with a shotgun, because after the first 1 or 2 hits they've woken up and moved. |
