I am skilling into Assault dropships and was wondering which is better? Shield or armor based?

You can fit either the Python or the Incubus however you like, but the former receives bonuses for missiles, while the latter receives bonuses for hybrid turrets. The bonuses are not insignificant, so it's a good idea to use them according to the bonuses they grant; ie, Python for missiles, Incubus for hybrid turrets (I think the Incubus grants bonuses to both blasters and rails, but I could be wrong and it might just be rails).
Past that distinction, there are a few other considerations. IMO the Python is a bit quicker/more responsive, but has a longer chassis, so that can work against it in cramped spaces. The Python is a shield beast and can get to full shields from almost none in <= 10 seconds. The Incubus is great when set up with armor reppers. Can't recall off the top of my head, but I feel like my current setup gets something like 230 - 250 armor/sec, which means it can fully repair its armor from near-nothing in under 10 seconds, too.
My current fits are as follows.
Python (flown with my "Pilot" scout suit, which includes a repair tool to save the day when I don't GTFO fast enough and need to land in a safe zone)
- As many/the largest shield extenders as I can fit (this gives me about 3200 shields)
- Afterburner (to GTFO as necessary)
- PG upgrade
- Best missiles I can fit
Incubus
- Having difficulty remembering what I've got in the highs--probably not much, if anything
- As many/the largest armor reppers I can fit (I think this works out to a Basic Heavy and a Complex Light, at least, with maybe room for one more)
- Afterburner
- PG upgrade
- Best rails I can fit
Sorry for the lack of deets, re: the Incubus--I can check my fit tonight and get back to you if you want. But that's the gist of it. IMO, focusing on repping and speed is the best strategy, since any sort of focused fire is almost a guaranteed lost ship. Don't forget--ADS are pretty much 1- or 2-shottable by good FGers. And a FGer with a good swarmer... Well, just GTFO! |

I find success piloting a missile equipped Incubus...counterintuitive with respect to bonuses, I know. But the Incubus is fairly forgiving to impact damage, and I get low in the city sockets where the EZmode outside swarmers can't take their cheap shots.
Swarmers don't like hanging out inside the city sockets I find...the action is too fast for them to make sure they are pointing their LOLweapon in the right direction before firing.
