198 components for an experimental weapon - that's 594 AUR if you were to buy the components. Compared to 45 or 50 AUR for prototype. Are they worth over 13 times the cost of proto? |

Component price is balanced with warbarge progression and experimental weapon component cost is balanced on component production.
Both are set to keep balance
Their suppose to be rare

It can if you keep it properly upgraded, instead of blitzing the lab and leaving the factory alone.
If you play just a few matches you'll even get the WB components via salvage to make up any potential short comings, and CCP ratatouille has mentioned several times that he prefers to reward playing the game over simply logging in.
So I suggest you keep your Factory upgraded properly in relation to your Lab, and you play a few matches regularly if you want to earn experimental and potentially officer weapons/suits regularly.
If it was isk related, you'd likely be complaining that the WB isk maker couldn't keep up

You're not paying 198 components for an experimental weapon, you're paying 198 components for a chance at officer weapons/ dropsuits. If it's not worth it to you then don't do it. Personally I think it's worth it because it's produced me all kinds of goodies.

I had the same fears about having to spend AUR, but so far through mission rewards and salvage I haven't had a shortage of components.

My title was a little alarmist, granted, but my post was asking if people think they are worth 13x the value (albeit a theoretical one) of proto.
The mustang comparison didn't really help me. I wasn't complaining. Nyan san can't buy thousands? I'm not worried about spending my money where I fancy.
Judging by the responses most think they are worth the "asking price".... |

I do think they are worth the price, I've been lucky enough to get both experimental and officer rail rifles from it, and the Roden Sniper Rifle is hilariously priceless.

If you're spending Aurum for componants for the use of creating Experimental Weapons. Well, do I even have to say it?

There are many people spending aurum upgrading their warbarges; some for sp, some for damage bonus, possibly some for isk and some for the lab output. However you cut it if you have spent money on the warbarge and you have experimental weapons then you have paid for said experimental weapons with real money. I was interested inthe perceived value of these things as compared to regular aur weapons. |

The only gripe I have about the experimental stuff is that I am getting some items that are the same stats as proto. I.E. I have an experimental combat rifle right now that is the same stats as the Six Kin Assault CR. Why did I pay to get it from my experimental lab when I could get it from the market? More CCP shenanigans I assume. |

Well maybe it's just me but the economics don't seem right - you would need a level 7 factory to support a level 3 lab (ignoring random drops from eom and boxes). Level 7 factory would produce 800 per day and the lab would cost 792, leaving 8 spare to build up other subsytems. |

Weeeeellll, while I agree the pretense of this thread is dumb, your analogy does come apart a bit as there is a random factor to it. It's kinda like paying the price hoping to get a Corvette, but you might get a 1992 Volkswagen Rabbit instead. They're both cars that can take you places fairly consistently, but there's a god chance for getting either one for the same price.
