I joined Dust a year ago, returning to it in December, with a mass of unallocated passive SP. I've only used one login of the 3 available, but am considering setting an an Amarr alt, so I get to play with lasers and logistic without any cross speccing out of CalAss and MinSent.
Do many players run alts, given passive SP is only gained on one login? |

I did back before the cap was raised and the passive is per psn account. So if you were to make an alt on a different account you could have passive on that one |

With the speed you can accrue SP at this time I don't know many people keeping up with their alts.
I wish they'd implenent a system for selling them. I've got a 26 mil SP alt that I never play.
I'm selling Templar Codes. 2 of 5 remaining. 225 mil ISK. Message me in game.

Apparently if you create a new character it has starter fits of all races. I haven't tried, get back at us and let us know.
If true, your starter race doesn't matter as you have access to all the racial weapons in the form of free militia BPO Starter Fits from the beginning.
Of course, creating your own militia fits can cost as little as 1200-1800 isk a pop, profitable as long as you keep deaths under 15 per game.

I did this morning. You get a range of starter suits across all races. Great, but looks like it'll be better to focus on the main, as I never cap out, and test out militia fits.
I run a couple of Apex suits at present, just to limit losses whilst I get a grip on gameplay. |

In the beginning, alts were useful as a "do I want to use this?" That was back when 8 million was a godly amount of SP though. Starting a character that would get 168,000 a week was a decent way of making sure you didn't go too deep into something that would suck because the game didn't originally have militia everything. I created a few alts to build up passive SP, some now having 20+ million. Playing them was only really a thing back when it was a daily cap. My dad went crazy with alts, capping out 2-4 a week when the cap was still less than 200k.
Now, I just don't see the point. 750k a week is not exactly a guarantee like 192k was. It is still worthwhile to run a few alts passive because you might as well. If their SP suddenly goes away based on CCP wanting to get rid of SP farms, no big deal. The pay off of having a character to test out some huge new change is pretty big though. Again, less important because Respecs are a thing now. People that have "tanks alts" and "logistics alts" probably had those characters back when the cap wasn't that high and 30+ million SP wasn't the standard. I would guess they still play those alts because they can't bring themselves to train a single character in skills that another one has simply for the waste factor.
