As a heavy I carry bolt pistol most of the time but when someone come to me up close while my HMG is almost overheated and I had to pull out sidearm,I die in 80% cases.Any good sidearm that have good range and faster fire rate for close battle?I thought about scrambler pistol but i want to hear your opinion.

SMG is a staple for many sentinels.
If the MagSec didn't kick like a mule I would say it is a long range substitute for the SMG.

Almost every heavy uses an smg as a sidearm and there's a reason for it
It is the best finishing weapon available
It doesn't have the range of a bolt pistol but it has more than enough range for what you need it to do

Bolt pistol is my preferred because people panic and make mistakes when they get hit with it.
SMG for HMG because sometimes you encounter enemies in cqc reloading. Bolt pistol performs poorly in CQC.
Forge gun fits should avoid CQC like it's made from pure plague. Bolt pistols should avoid cqc. Bolt pistols can blap poorly tanked scouts.

It would be SMG but it lack range too much...What if someone with rail rifle/combat rifle from 40m shoots me and I can't chase him off because SMG is bad at that range?In those scenarios my bolt pistol saved me so much time bit it can't save me from up close...What about Breach scramble pistol or Ion pistol?

Why does no one ever suggest the Magsec? That little thing might not have the damage output of some sidearms, but it has the range of an assault rifle and isn't a bad finisher. I mean, I suppose if you've gotten so accustomed to Dust's lack of recoil, controlling it might be a little difficult, but this gun rips it up and it makes me kind of sad that it's barely used, even though it's really an amazing weapon.

Indeed but if you use BP + FG and a scout comes from behind you i think SMG gives tou a hope to survey, but my idea of forgegun is as anti infantry weapon

BP and SMG are the ones I natively feel comfortable using.
Ion pistol can die in a fire.

my theory is that if you're onto your sidearm in a firefight then chances are you're hitting the enemy armour which makes the SMG the best choice by having +35% damage vs it with prof 5. i love my Toxin/Syndicate BPOs with min assault lv5 and prof 5 its amazing the damage you can get from a clip.
If you're a person with good precision though then a single bolt pistol round with high skills can finish a heavy off pretty easily

Depends on what I'm going up against....
If it's light HP suits like scouts, I much prefer the BrScP for its alpha stopping power.
For more slow-moving (or armor-based) targets, it's the SMG.
I see quite a few high-skill heavies using the bolt pistol -- alas, I've never felt comfortable shooting it as the slow rate of fire and charge time make it difficult for me to use effectively in CQC or at range on anything other than a stationary noob. |
