As the chatter for a simple trading mechanism increases, it got me thinking, as it's a "send X item to Y person" there is plenty of room for a New Eden style scam, but with the right middlemen in a position of trust, this risk could be reduced to a more comfortable level.
For people who know and trust each other, there is no need for this. Likewise, corpmates trading amongst themselves could use the CEO as a middleman to guarantee a safe trade.
My scenario is more like the people who are in my position - I have a ton of BPO's to get rid of, but know few people well enough to be able to blindly send them a BPO and expect items/ISK in return.
Are there any middlemen who exist in the community, even on the forums or in-game who provide these kinds of services. Maybe someone who has sold BPO codes in exchange for ISK or some such mechanism?
I imagine of course the mechanism would work roughly like this:
1) Both parties agree on what to trade/buy/sell and which middleman to work through 2) Both parties send items/isk to middleman 3) Middleman confirms with both parties what they are going to receive and commission he is going to take. 4) Both parties say OK 5) Middleman completes exchange 6) Both parties very wow, much happy.
Looking forward to trading with you all. |

I'll do it for a 10% cut of the Base ISK price of all the items I transfer.

I can do middleman. If you do it and charge right you can make more isk legit than you can scamming.
Besides, where's the fun of being the badguy all the time?

Thanks for putting a price on it. Just out of interest, in theory the buyer and seller both pay 10%? so for the sake of argument, I want to give someone a Dren Shotgun BPO (which i have a few of!), and want a uplink BPO in return, we'd each pay our 10% of what we are selling or what we are buying? Also, how are BPO's priced in ISK - You just take the BPC ISK price?

I see myself as a very reputable figure (and I hope you do too) I would be more than happy to be a trustworthy middleman for such transactions.

Nope, just the seller. I was originally going to make it the buyer but I figured it'd be better if I made the seller pay since they could simply add on the 10% price to the negotiated price.
For item barters however, both parties would pay the 10%. And the case of a BPO, it would simply be the Base ISK Price multiplied by 5. So, your Dren Shotgun would cost around 50k to send.
APEX's however, will simply cost 100k to transfer.

I just bounced off what CCP's prediction on trading is going to be: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2618245#post2618245
Of course we won't know the final mechanics until it's live, but chances are it won't be anything too complicated.

That sounds pretty reasonable actually. The new meta will be enjoyable. I have just an immense amount of stuff to trade/sell. The middlemen "market" will also develop it's own pricing and mechanisms. Props to you for putting yourself out there.

Looking forward to trading with you all.
This is how I intend to do things once trading comes online and my brokerage company can flex its potential. The idea being that even if the trade was "not as described" , for example, the item differs slightly then what was described, well, as middleman, ill be able to cancel the trade and send the parties back their stuff if they decline based on the new information.
Also, dont forget, its not the day after the feature that i will be middlemanning BPO trades. Infact, i think everyone should sit on their BPOs until enough of a market develops that reliable worth pricing can be achieved.
im going to take you down as a contact though, as if you have a vast inventory that you are looking to sell and trade, thats something that could interest me down the line. |

CCP Rattati wrote:Simple Trading as I define it is
go to item in assets press X send item to Contact (not player) select qty send are you sure yes
CCP Rattati wrote:This will create a market for middlemen, friends trading stuff they don't want and the ability to send to CEO, who distributes based on need for PC.
Better ways to trade are obviously known. They either depend on both being on the server for handshake, send item claim in email, which requires major backend work, or auction houses which is a huge undertaking.
This simple method allows trading to happen, at all and I would rather spend a part of our resources on other features.
