I played around 4 matches that were gravy. Then not so much. I guess this universe has a short honey moon. I am a leaf on the wind, volcanic wind.
There was a guy on team chat that said I'd be getting wasted alot. He said come to this forum and..... well I can't remember the rest. I got tips on fitting a suit. I hope it pays to get my races suits.
How do I get good squads? I try squad finder but it's like not having a squad.
Is the bolt pistol really godly? I feel like I got tricked. It only has 4 rounds. The pistol they give you has more ammo.
How come they give you vehicles that are easy to destroy. Sometimes I can't even drive an inch.
Should I start over? |

Should I start over? first few were in the battle academy, you were playing other newberries, and yeah be prepared to die A LOT
check in the "rookie training ground" section you should be able to find more useful tips n such.
meh never really run it but it's accurate and very long range for a sidearm
Don't call in LAVs if there's lots of people around they'll just get wrecked, they're for quick movement not pitched battles

First thing's first, don't join Duna corp. It's not a corp, it's just a bank of Duna.
But you should check the 'team' chat in a few matches, see if there's a squad with a decent few people in. After a few different squads you might find one you like, then ask to join one of their corp (if they're rude and didn't offer first O__O!) From the corp chat, you'll find plenty of squads.
The bolt pistol hits a lot of damage in a short period of time, but it's by no means 'godly.' In my opinion the SMG still rules all side-arms. But I run Commando so my opinion is a bit lame, my side-arm of choice is a shotgun, because the Commando can have 2 light weapons. (But beware, the universal opinion is that Commando suits suck... And well, they have a lot of disadvantages for that second light weapon slot!)
Don't roll the LAV's. Don't drive into anything that isn't a dropsuit. Don't stick around if someone shoots at your LAV. If you want better usable vehicles, you have to spec heavily into all their modules. |

You join good squads by joining the right chat channels.. It depends on what you want to do.. like my channel air assault is for ppl who want to squad with a pilot or door gun on a dropship.. there's all kinds of populated channels you just have to ask around.. yes in squad finder you will usually find total crap there..
even in a squad sometimes everyone burns out and just does their own thing which can get depressing.. this community is generally very helpful toward new players as long as you have the patience to learn. it sucks tho to spend an hour on someone only to have them log out and go play COD which is usually my experience trying to help someone in game.
the bolt pistol is extremely good some will even go as far to say it is OP
also the free vehicles they gave you are utter shiite until you upgrade and modify them with skill points.. after millions of skill points the gallente lav get's pretty tough to destroy |

Pro tip: Look at who you're playing against at the beginning of the match. Learn the major corps (Nyain San/Chan, Fatal Absolution, Molon Labe, Necromongers, basically anybody with a district in the star map). :P Learn how each corp plays (Nyains normally run assault suits and scouts). Also, when in battle, unless you *want* to be killed, deny the Nyains (when we see Nyains in Demonic Cowboys, we joke and say it's Nyain-thirty). :P
If you need any help, check out the Rookie Training Ground, as others have said, and feel free to send anybody here some mail. We're happy to help a newberry learn our pitiful game. :D

The Bolt pistol is an alpha weapon, meaning it does a lot of damage all at once, but continuous damage really slowly. One of the best tactics I can think of for it is use your main weapon to chew through shield and some armor, then use the bolt pistol to finish them off (rail weaponry like the bolt pistol, Magsec, and rail rifle do slightly more damage to armor). It's also good against scouts or other low HP suit, but it can be trouble against say a full health heavy (or anything you can kill in 2-3 shots). It can be really good if used right.
Personally I like the SMG, but I think only the ion pistol is under performing as far as side arms go.
Militia vehicles and vehicle mods are pretty bad, at least compared to skilled up fits. It also doesn't help that people get a hard-on for killing vehicles and will almost always pull proto out to kill even a MLT tank. There are some changes coming to vehicles soon(tm) so I'd wait until those go through to see if you like it. If you want to keep tanking, be a bit more cautious when driving. Don't get caught in a bad place and always have a way to escape. If there are too many forgers or swarms, don't be afraid to recall.
Also, have your first like ;) Molon Labe's public chat is #Sand Castles if you want to throw an LFS (looking for squad) in.

if they are helpful and you enjoy playing with them then you should join. if it doesn't work out you can always leave. good players are not always easy to come by and some of them are in obscure corps, not saying this one is but you can have an effect on a corps success.. no corps status is set in stone either they rise and fall throughout dust's history.. if anything you will get out of it by joining is networking with more players which often crosses the boundaries of corps because of the channels you continue to share even if you decided to leave. all it matters technically for is PC but in pubs squads of mixed corps is common. |

Keep hopping around the squad finder until you find people with Mic's. Make sure you 'ACTIVATE VOICE' on your 'SQUAD CHAT'. Hopefully they are friendly and know a corp you can join.
The bolt pistol is pretty good yes, but keep in mind The starting gear is pretty inferior to what you'll get after you spec into things.
Dust can be very frustrating. You will run into full squads of decked out super tryhards called 'proto stompers'. I recommend just leaving battle if you encounter them. A good way to tell is if your team is down 20-30 clones in the early stages of the game.
Sadly, there's no bonus to using gear from your own race. Just experiment with different stuff and find out what you like.
Stick with it! Dust can be pretty fun if you make it through the insanely hard early stages and find a good group of players to run with.

BP has ****-poor DPS, but it's accurate and individual shots do huge damage. This makes it a scout's best friend, since scouts go for surprise attacks and don't like to stick around. But if the enemy knows you're there and retreat isn't an option, it's not so good.
So are you a scout? Yes? Use it. You'll love it. No? It's ****. Get the SMG or flaylock instead.

The best advice that I can give you:
1) Join Dust University. A corp that was made to help out new players understand the game and get their roots within Dust.
2) Don't let your race tell you your playstyle. Each race has a different playstyle (that is shown in their suits) I wil list the each race's playstyle here: Amarr: Stand and deliver. They tank armor and their weapons are excellent for the standing and delivering play style. Especially the Laser Rifle.
Gallente: CQC brawlers. While Gallente also focuses on armor, they focu more on armor repairers rather than tanking the suit up with armor. Their weapons are great for running straight to your enemy and killing them in the spot. The best I can compare this playstyle imagine the Gallente Assault and Sentinel being Rhinos. Rhinos charge right in with its horn and smack you. But do so smartly. Your reps will keep you alive and not needing a repair tool every engagement.
Minmatar: Run n' Gun. That's it. You have the lowest of HP in the whole game but also the fastest sprinting speed. So use that to your advantage. Do not take enemies head on and always keep on the move.
Caldari: They tank shields and prefer long range combat over any other combat in the game. Tank good shields, regen and recharge deplay and you will have a pretty good suit. Just watch out if a Gallente gets too close to you. They will shred you apart.
And if you haven't noticed. The Amarr is at war with the Minmatar while the Gallente is at war with the Caldari. Amarr and Caldari being allies while Gallente and Minmatar being allies. Also each race's fighting style cancel each one out against their enemies.
Gallente are CQC while Caldari are long range. As long as the Caldari have a long range advantage, the Gallente will loose, but if fitted right, a Gallente suit can be speedy, a little tanky and have good armor repairs to recover from the the weapons of Caldari. And if a Gallente gets close to the Caldari. The Caldari is dead.
Amarr are standing and delivering while the MInmatar are running n' gunning. Amarr weapons deal good damage along side with their high armor count. A Minmatar will fail trying to take out an Amarr head on, but if the Minmatar manages to escape the sights of the Amarr, they are pretty much dead when you hit them with your Combat Rifle.
Next thing you should learn are weapon damage profiles. This being: Laser +20% damage to shields -20% damage to armor
Hybrid- Blaster +10% damage to shields -10% damage to armor
Hybrid- Rails -10% damage against shields +10% damage to armor
Projectiles -15% damage to shields +15% damage to armor
Explosives -20% damage to shields +20% damage against armor
And I would advice against using squad finder when you are new. Many players are a bunch of asses and would want you to require a mic, run proto, etc. My best advice in this case is to join the corp I suggested and squad up with them and members of the alliance as well if you want.
My last advice is no NEVER give in to FOTM (Flavor Of The Month). This are suits/weapon or both that are overperforming above everything else in the game. This will get nerfed and you will feel cheated if you ever decide to spec into them. Unless you feel like dropping $20 every time a new FOTM comes out while they nerfed the previous one. I suggest not specializing into any of it. Current FOTM being Minmatar Assault with Combat Rifle.
That is all I can offer you for now, new player. Do not let the harshness of the matches turn you off this game. Beacuse it will keep evolving. And you will want to be part of it once that happens. Good luck out there merc o7 and don't be afraid to hit me up if you ever need advice in anything more. Let it be anything because I am specialized into almost every role in this game, Tanks, Dropships, Assault Dropships, Assaults, Scouts, Sentinels and Commandoes. ONly role I need is logi but I am really not a logistics player.
Good luck out there and stay frosty o7

Go into one of the starter corps. They are there to teach and turn you loose.
Don't take an offer from spam mail. That'll get you into a tax farm.
I would suggest Dust Uni, but I've heard Dust University is running low numbers these days, just what I've heard, I don't know.
Immortal Guides is good choice.
After you've learned the basics and feel comfortable, move into a corp with people you like to play with.
After that if so inclined, start prepping to go into a PC corp. If you want to reach the top of the competitive levels of this game a PC corp is where it's at. It's also where you make the most money and a name for yourself.
You can also be a forum warrior. That's where you don't know much about the game but spend all day convincing CCP to believe in your terrible suggestions.
