Change weapons, try different dropsuit mods setups, squad up, respec, try a dropship or tank, etc. Sometimes we find ourselves trying to force a basketball in a water hose?!
You need to switch it up a bit. The combat rifle may not be for you, for example. A ton of players in this game go fotm often, but learn the hard way that everything isn't for everybody. They go fotm in hopes that things get easier because they haven't found their niche, or CCP changed their gear.
I love the gal assault, but hate the AR. I like the RR now that I don't feel like I'm cheating since it's been balanced. I'm no jolly Roger so scouting wasn't for me, bit there are alot of mercs stills dying repeatedly trying to be Cyrius Li Moody reincarnate. Every heavy isn't Vong gai. Some guys tank their heavy built for logi support.... they get remoted to sleep. Some speed tank their heavy and strafe.... they get bulldozed by rifle fire.
Pick your poison, and know what you're weak against. Hopefully someone in squad can cover your flank, and compensate for your short comings. Know that every suit you build has a counter. Build different versions for different things. Use the weapons different variants. Go do test to see how long your shield and armor can take direct dmg. It will give you a reference, and ground feedback for what your suit can withstand.
Not everyone can strafe. Not everyone wants to, and I hate when I have to. Some of us like "stand and deliver" while others prefer to be more mobile. Whatever style you prefer doesn't matter if you're in the opposite arena trying to be a boss. I can stand and deliver in strafe land, and strafers don't have stand and deliver capabilities. Range fighters learn to keep the enemy at a distance while CQC fighters learn to close the distance.
You have to first find out what you're good at. Not what you like. If you're running scout and dying try heavy. Running assault and dying try logi. It's really not all about dying so much as it is about managing economy and performance. If you're having trouble killing guys why are you still shooting hopelessy? Try being a logi in a squad! Definitely lucrative, focuses on support, and fun to setup depending on the type of logi you are. Try a tank out! Get in squad with other tankers, and work toget her to destroy enemy vehicles. Isk to be made there too.
It just sounds to me like you're trying to force this "killer" thing too much. K/D isn't everything, but when you just have to kill try trigger control. Consistantly holding R1 doesn't yield great results. You have increased kick and dispersion on rifles. fire 10-15 rounds and stop to re-acquire. You will find that you waste less ammo, and actually hit the target. Also make sure you are carrying an armor sidearm if you carry a shield light weapon. Dealing with armored troops with shield weapons is not favorable.
Sounds like you need a good corp and squad. I'm not a poacher by any means and not the best player to boot, but I can get you through the fundamentals. Give D3ATH CARD a shout in d3fc pub channel. You need focused training in an area, and maybe a bit of patience. I've been in your shoes bro. o7
