...do you feel like it would have been a bigger success and more akin to Legion than what exists now?
Personally I feel that yes, it would have been a bigger success. While I'm aware that the fact DUST is on PS3 is not it's only detriment, I feel as if it had started on PS4, it would have possibly gained a larger player base, and would fall more in line with the promises of past years.

They would have gone through the same growth pangs that they are enduring now.
Perhaps a little better game client performance would have kept the community coming back and growing? A more polished look, more frames per second, less bugs, less lag.
It might have been better on the player base, but either way, CCP has their lessons to learn about running an online FPS. |

Don't forget, Dust was announced in 2009. Wen't through at least one complete re-write, and the PS4 was brand new when Dust was available.
Look at the PS4 now, people still say there are very few, if any, good games on the console. The PS3 had, what, 80 million units in the wild? In 2009, it probably made great sense to put the game on the PS3 instead of waiting for dev units and release of the PS4.
Would it have mattered to wait for the PS4 in the long run? I don't know, my crystal ball is broken. My biggest concern now is that we've seen nothing of Legion since it was announced nor have we heard anything about a port to PS4. This game will not survive where it is now and will have to move IF ccp plans to continue development of the game.

If dust was on PS4 in the state that it is right now specially after CCP implemented a timewall. I just hope angry joe never reviews it because it will tear it a new @sshole.

I just dont know what CCP is thinking. Pay aurum to buy components yes. Pay to diminish wait in order to upgrade hell no. Just feels so weird thinking that dust has timedwall like those sh!tty phone games.

No.
DUST was officially launched 5/14/13, a full 6 months before the PS4 was launched. DUST is not disappointment because it is on old tech. It is a disappointment based on what the developers have done with the game. MAG was less ambitious than DUST but MAG did what it set out to do. DUST's premise of "We are going to completely link EVE and DUST together; fight in either game in the same Universe!" has not happened and will likely never happen, maybe not even in Legion. Once you get over the initial sting of "damn, this game is not going to be what it was originally designed to be", it hits with you lackluster graphics, inconsistent framerates, bad matchmaking, zero new player experience, limited game modes, and the game not being to decide if they want high TTK or be more twitch shooter like.
The last bit would likely have happened even if it was on PS4, which is what makes the game hard to get into for those that are not already invested.
I think the game could have been better on the PC from the start because it might have been possible for the game to be what it was originally meant to be; massive interconnectivity between EVE and DUST. Even if that were not the case, PC would at least have a larger player base simply because EVERY EVE player would likely have at played DUST. At the moment, the player base is split. There are only two people that would play DUST:
Group A: People that are interested in EVE and have a PS3. Group B: People that are interested in DUST.
It showing up on the "free games" does get some people to play it but they then experience the problems I listed in the primary paragraph so some of them fall out. Group A, in my opinion, are less likely to fall out than Group B. If it were on the PC, even if it had those problems, I think you would see more people. If nothing else, EVE players could play DUST while they wait for something to happen in the slower, methodical EVE. Helmar kind of stated that this was the goal of the Three Games, One Universe thing; Valkyrie for 30-60 minutes, Legion for 60-180 minutes, EVE 4 hours or more.
