I had a thought while in the Biomassed Podcast tonight. What if a pilot suit served an E-war function of vehicle hacking?
Base Properties of Pilot Suit across all tiers -Prevents infantry from initiating a pilot ejection hack while rodeoing vehicle, except by another pilot suit of equal or greater suit level (not unlocked suit skill level, pilot must be wearing class of suit on field to hack your vehicle). -Pilot Suits cannot equip cloaks. -Pilot Suits mimic the slot and grid progression of basic light frames.
Possible Additions Pilot suits can grapple vehicles.

What if we replaced all suits with pilot suits?

Already spoke my peace on how foolish this is. Yea, let's avoid all the shielding and Armor a HAV has, simply hop onto it and kick out the current pilot or simply outright kill him/her.
Also, just played around with testing on trying to hop onto a HAV, it isn't hard. Seeing as those are the most expensive vehicles in the game, that's a problem. On top of that, This gives no defense against that for the pilot, only jump out or hope that the infantry can help you out (which usually they don't, at all).

Has CCP given any hints to their plans on Pilot Suits?
Off the top of my head I imagine them kind of like this.
Side arm only, and depending on the race, simple passive bonuses to things like:
-Active module duration/cooldown -Vehicle torque -Vehicle speed -Max ammo -Reload speed -Splash damage -etc
Not very exciting, but somewhat easy to balance, and if you are a dedicated vehicle person this is still the suit you're going to pick.

-Prevent infantry from initiating a pilot ejection hack: That would be nice if they put those in, but using a if/but logic isn't great, because an individual would go to attempt something rarely occurring and dangerous. I think it is simple enough to present rodeoing as a possible benefit of improving the Pilot Suit skill instead and allowing everyone to rodeo at a base level.
-Pilot suit cannot equip cloaks: Unnecessary since scout suits get the bonus to fitting, not pilot suits, they will be encumbered by CPU/PG limits anyway.
-Pilot suit can only equip sidearms: Do they still have 2 equipment slots and grenades? Why only a sidearm? What passive bonus does the suit give that trumps so greatly the equipment of a main weapon? |

Create vehicle equipment slots, move specific modules over to the vehicle equipment slots (remote reps, MCRU's, scanners, later iterated items like bubble shields / wide area nanohives).
Create pilot suits that function almost like vehicular logistics, modifying the effects / cooldowns of vehicle equipment. This makes pilot suits a highly desireable pickup for people who want to use vehicles often, but not a mandatory thing for those that simply want to dabble in vehicles.

I'm opposed to the vehicle hacking and "cooking" concept. It would discourage pilots from using pilot suits. At least I'd be discouraged. First of all, I'd have to use a proto pilot suit to lower the chances that someone out there will match my suit level, which would further add to the cost of my HAV. Second, if pilot suits are to be weak, then I'm just going to use a heavy/sentinel suit as my "pilot" suit so I can jump out and mow down the hacker (I wouldn't dare to jump out and engage them if I were in an actual pilot suit).

Not all criticism needs to be constructive, it's certainly more useful when it is though. I do happen to agree that the proposal is terrible / poorly thought out.
