I'm debating into finally speccing into nova knives. I detested them for so long, and now that I am bored of the game, I'd like to play around with a different style.
Any advice from setups to tactics would be highly appreciated as well as a fact to WHY nova knives are the shizzle bizzle shiznits.

Speed is your friend.
Using a sidearm to go along with your knives ate handy for using damage mods.
Use Minja.
I don't recommend using cloaks (delay is terribad) as is the range reduction.

I just took them to proto and beyond a week or two ago.
Like chess or golf, they are easy to learn but prove daunting to master.
As to why are they the shizzle of my fo nizzle nuts?

If you run with knives only like you are "Rambo Noob Knife" you will be miserable and hate them because you will suck and feel like a bad person.
Equip them with your best rifle and "whir shee whir" stationary targets only until you get better. Ask me how I know.

Complex Myofibril Stims x3 - You're going to want to deal as much melee damage as possible just in case your charge misses Complex Armor Plates x3 - Minjas suffer from low health. You'll want to stack HP to avoid getting one-shotted
Ishukone Nova Knives - This should be placed into your main weapon slot Ion Pistol - If your charge or melee attacks miss, the IP is a great spray-and-pray weapon because of its high RoF Core Locus Grenades - If everything misses, your Core Locus Grenades will be your last resort weapons. Hold one, don't let go, and run towards your enemies.
Ishukone Cloak Field - Cloaking will make you invisible. Compact Nanohive - You'll want to restore some of your armor if it drops too low.
Go now. The battlefield awaits your arrival. |

I suggest stacking kincats and shield extenders, to help with frontal rush attacks. Or you can use damps, precision enhances, and range amps to see your enemy before they see you and take them out from behind. Also, since you get the hack bonus, you could put on hack mods, cloak, and kincats, be a speed hacker and get a lot of wp, maybe put on some rang amps and precision enhancers to make sure no one is around when you hack.

Dont get seen. Have fun. I only use cloak on my speedhacking fit for obvious reasons and some slayer Gallente scout fits that would benefit more from a Nanohive.
PROTIP: Especially is you cant afford it, NEVER run prototype gear in pubs. If you die ONCE you pay is moot. Only if necessary.
Example: Being stomped in Skirm and you need all four slots full of biotics to get links down 600+ meters away cause our HP is suicide and you need those links down as quickly and quietly as possible cause vehicle draw too much attention.

While the complex plate does add weight, i suggest complex ferroscale plates, you can perform more teabags than necessary to anger your opponent at the sight of his dead mercenary being molested

I would recommend pubbing with: STD min scout suit. ADV knife. Rifle of your choice. Drop Uplinks. Armor Repair module. Fill in the rest with what you like. Shoot, hack and deploy uplinks. Knife when you get the opportunity or feel bold. With mostly standard (or militia if you can fit them) modules you will have a very cost effective suit. I can easily get decent SP and make a profit from most matches.
You want a cheap fit for learning so you don't stress out as much if you die a lot. But I feel Advanced knives are a good sweet spot for OHKing most players. With proficiency maxed I still have to double swipe some heavies.
I haven't played much recently so I can't say how useful EWAR is these days.
Do knives still do vehicle damage? I was getting a ton of points damaging enemy LAVs left on the map (but don't destroy them as they will blow you up, hehe). Also very entertaining knifing tanks and watching them panic.
Running around in skirmish, speed hacking objectives and knifing reds while they hack is a satisfying combo role.
Well placed uplinks can help a team greatly, meaning even if you aren't getting kills you are still helping your team.

Good job Warbot What fit did you use, just wondering? What I find effective is this fit that costs ~10k ISK Scout M-1
2x Basic Extenders, if you have skills up use MLT
Combat Rifle or Breach SMG ZN-28
RE and Uplinks
KinCat and Enh. Damp, but these days, doesn't make much of a difference so feel free to put another KinCat or reg or something

Just a piece of advice: if your target is a group of two or more people facing the same direction, start with the one who is the most at the rear of the group and then kill them in sequence. Be ready to swap your prey for another according to instantaneous changes of their formation and be careful: if they are at least three and one of them turns around spotting you, you're pretty much screwed. |

Bitches please, one does not need be a minja to NK effectively. Sure it helps with that damage bonus, but I can effectively knife in an ammarian assault suit. It's all about kincatz, awareness and knowing when to run like a little girl when you get caught with your knives out.

As Eru said, start with stationary targets. Knifing moving ones gets complicated, especially the faster their movement speed.
There are many styles of knifer, so you are going to have to experiment and see what works best for your play style. Many people no longer like the cloak, however there are still some that find it useful.
I suggest at least one Complex Dampener on one fit. Especially with increased Medium Frame passive Precision.
If you need some added HP, consider Adv Shield Extenders over Armor, or Complex Extenders. Adv offers more bang for your ISK and fitting cost. And there is little else to put up in your High Slots that are worth anything.
Flaylocks are tons of fun when combined with knives, and are effective at Std, so you can save on fitting space and price.
I suggest using a transition period where you use whatever weaponry you use best, and add knives to get a feel. If you really want to knife, you can make some dedicated knifing fits once you get the hang of it.
Overall, patience is key. It will take time and some experimentation.
Former CEO of the Land of the BIind.
Any double entendre is unintended I assure you.

just for fun yet surprisingly effective, is my melee suit
1x ADV winmatar scout
2x proto kin kats
1x STD RE
1x nanohive standard, your choice
3x proto melee mods whatever they're name
1x STD swarm launcher
1x STD nova knives
if you want a knifing suit just replace melee mods with shields and swap out STD knives for ADV or Proto. can also replace swarms with anything.
I'm seeing cloaked scouts everywhere... they're not invis.
