This feature really needs to be reinstated. Nobody respects the forgegun whatsoever anymore, I am mostly an ambush player and there was a time when a good forge gunner needed to be respected. It has been marginalized to a sniping weapon. Strafe around with a scout make them miss and its over. Being one of the only two heavy weapons in the game it should not be able to be outperfomed at its own job by the plasma cannon. Wearing a heavy suit just makes you too damn slow to compete. I know the forge is primarily an AV weapon but the plasma cannon has half the reload time, splash damage and can be thrown on a commando and given another main weapon. Please consider returning the forge splash damage CCP. alot of us spent tons of SP on a weapon that is nearly obsolete IMO. |

The real problem with the forge isn't that splash was removed. The issue is that the old change to it's charge time dramatically screwed up it's shot cadence. Leave the splash as it is and just give the forge back it's old charge times.

So the days of rooftop camping Forgers can return? Hell no. Back then they owned infantry easily and calling in a DS to go to them would just be you feeding them WP.
They are fine as of now. A Iittlw reduced charge time maybe.

I use forge a lot and its main problems are that 1) it isn't a high RoF hitscan weapon which means that so long as side to side twitch is a thing people will forever be capable of dancing through its fire and 2) there is no on the-fly way to drop sensitivity for it like tapping L1 achieves for the PLC or even laser riflle.
The first issue isn't easily fixable, the second is and if the 'laser sight' on it was functional it would even warn infantry that a forge is being 'aimed' at them.
Having some splash back would be great though.

You seem to forget the plasma cannon also has less than half the range, an arc, and projectile speed. Do you want an av weapon or an ai weapon? The plasma cannon is made to do both but not be the best at it, which means to get what your asking for the av capabilities of the forge should get nerfed.

I hear you on the rooftop sniping thing,i would rather reduce the range, plus people can still do that with the assault forge. a few more problems come to mind. 1. the no- shot glitch still exists witch is extremly annoying with 5 second charge time. 2, the forge was once useful as an anti-installation weapon,but now that the turrets have so much health it takes half your ammo supply to blow one up. Increase damage vs installations maybe? The third problem with the lack of splash damage is it takes away any reason to use a proto forge, the whole purpose of having the proto forge was tor the splash dam and range increase. you can sing shot nearly any infantry with the advanced, yet the damage increase is negligable when it comes to armor, especially shield tanks. just some thoughts |

I maxed out all my forges skills (except specialization) when 1.7 hit because it was the only thing that could hurt vehicles. Now I find myself swinging back to swarms because they just have so many advantages over Forges... they are fire and forget, lock on is faster.. if you are running minmando you have your own nanohives and you're also much faster than a heavy AND can defend yourself from infantry. This pushes to the front many problems with the forges... and I think yes, a reduced charged time would be welcome even if splash damage didn't really come back. Even with the assault forge (I run this most of the time), hitting infantry is only doable when they are camping, sniping or are walking across open ground. Once infatry is within 30-40m from you, you're better off just taking out your sidearm or finding some cover... it's just an exercise in frustration.

CCP please add the splash damage back on the gaston's forge gun. It doesn't make any sense that the new officer Alldin's IMP-10 and all proto forge guns have splash damage but the original officer gaston's does not. It's a "rare weapon" with less or in this case no splash damage? Thanks, Slade

Just remove splash completely. The weapon isn't meant to kill infantry, and shouldn't be rewarded for trying. If you want splash, try the PLC |

Heaven forbid a heavy with no ammo should be able to do this.
The status quo of anyone carrying a plasma cannon is far more acceptable.

The splash was pulled because it was too easy to use a forge gun as an RE trap substitute. Even if you can't hit the hacker direct you could shoot the console high and blow the hacker's head off with the splash. It made certain objectives impossible to take from 300m away/
That's why the splash was removed.

I enjoy using the splash damage on the assault forge to support other infantry, especially on that train yard map the amount of assists i get can get ridiculous at times. the splash seems ok to me. |

the forge gun IS NOT let me repeat IS NOT an anti infantry weapon. now this does not stop me from going 20/0 with a gastrin (i forgot the spelling its something like that) with about 16 of the kills just infantry on a roof top while i stood in the middle of a rood next to a depo on the pancake roof. the forge gun splash damage is something i often think about when i barely miss a players feet and have to pull out my smg to kill him but that doesn't mean im gonna cry about it. i hit cloaked scouts by mistake sometimes (just had to add that because its funny)
if you are someone (sowee if i hurt your feelings ;-;) who would pull out a forge gun primarily to shoot people and were one of the ones who only used the assault forge and splash damage for kills i dont know how you can say your forge gunning. in my opinion the forge gun doesn't need splash, cause if you cant hit a tank or lav in the first place you need to go practice some more. i got 20+kills shooting people side on who were jumping around and all sorts of crap. the forge gun isnt a sniper its AV. people who use the assault forge for the splash just cant aim good enough to hit their target in the first place. it takes skill to shoot pilots falling from their air whales. (so far i have lost myself in this post because im just all over the place as i always am :3)

Rooftop forgers with the old splash was hell on Biomass Outpost and the like. I just want the standard tier AFG back to make forging a little more interesting on the cheap.

Get used to the very most basic level of the Forge, then when you switch over to the Assault forge you feel like a bawsss!
The only forge that needs buffs is the Breach forge. It either needs more volley damage for its pathetic charge up time and movement penalties or it needs the movement penalties removed and given a faster charge up time IMHO.

Maybe They could add an Ammo Type that changes how the forge behaves? So default ammo is what we got now. But if you want splash damage you lose 40-75% of your direct damage for it so a ADS can come and stomp you. Also could reduce range of forge when using AoE ammo. Just an idea.

I don't really fear Forge Guns at all on foot. They're pretty easy to hop around and dodge. Some people are very good at sniping with the AFG, but not for the most part.
It could probably use more splash.
Who cares what some sniper has to say.
