I would gladly shell out ~11000 AUR for any of the quafe BPO weapons or ~21000 AUR for any of the new fw BPO suits that will be released in Warlords 1.0. Why oh why are they only available in strongboxes? I don't want to gamble away $400 USD on opening strong boxes for a bunch of junk that I don't want, and then I probably wouldn't acquire the items that I do want.
Please offer these items in the marketplace for a reasonable cost. I will never pay a dime for decryptor keys as I am not a gambler.
* For the first time, Mercenaries will be able to receive BPO items by random chance, as the following new Standard Weapon and Dropsuit BPO's have been added to the Strongbox: - 'Quafe' Heavy Machine Gun. - 'Quafe' Forge Gun. - 'Quafe' Nova Knives. - 'Quafe' Mass Driver with matching color visual effect. - 'Quafe' Swarm Launcher with matching color visual effect. - 'Quafe' Assault Rifle. - 'Quafe' Plasma Cannon with matching color visual effect. - 'Quafe' Shotgun. - 'Quafe' Rail Rifle. - 'Quafe' Sniper Rifle. - 'Quafe' Laser Rifle with matching color visual effect.. - 'Quafe' Scrambler Rifle. - 'Quafe' Combat Rifle.
* Introducing new Factional BPO dropsuits, obtainable from Strongboxes: - 'Tash Murkon' STD Amarr Sentinel. - 'Tash Murkon' STD Amarr Scout. - 'Brutor' Minmatar STD Logistics. - 'Brutor' Minmatar STD Commando. - 'Kaalakiota' Caldari STD Assault. - 'Kaalakiota' Caldari STD Scout. - 'Roden' Gallente STD Scout. - 'Roden' Gallente STD Commando.

Have you ever played a CCG like Magic: The Gathering?
They rely on you needing X card(s) to have the perfect deck. You buy booster pack after booster pack at $5 a pop for a chance at a single rare card you need. It might take a dozen tries before you get the damn thing. Maybe more. After crunching the numbers you have figured out that you spent $100 on a card valued at $10 (maybe).
This little strongbox BPO "feature" is going to make CCP a boatload of money.
They will never, I repeat, NEVER roll this back. I don't care if GD is filled with threads. This kind of randomized reward scheme is way too profitable.
Your best bet is to unlock that "keymaker" subsystem in the warbarge ASAP and do your missions for keys. That, and find someone who is willing to sell those BPOs for ISK when simple player trading is finally available.
Just call me Ripple. Ripple Riley.

Yes, but there is also an online trading card game called Hearthstone where you can craft any card, even the rare cards. The Hearthstone crafting system allows you to melt down all of those useless duplicates and exchange them for something you want. If I can use the warbarge to craft meself some quafe BPO weapons, then that's cool.
Besides, until we have player trading, then any aspect of Dust 514 that relies on a TCG mechanic is a fail. First player trading, then strongboxes; let's not get ahead of ourselves. |

I have conceded the fact that I will probably not ever run any of the officer suits.
I will not open strongboxes.
They will not be worth the ISK people will want for them because of their rarity. Option A - dont want to lose it so only pull out when fighting newb - no fun in that Option B - pull it out when getting stomped when i could have lost X amount of proto suits for the same price |

there are also some people out there that won't 'gamble' for personal or religeous reasons too. its a way for CCP to make money but i'm sure if each BPO was the standard weapon price of i think it was 15,800AUR for weapons and say 19,800/21,800 AUR for the suits then they'd still make money but players who may not wish to engage in gambling can still benefit.
not only that but there is a huuuuge negative view on strongboxes at the moment due to videos and posts of players openign large amounts of lock boxes and receiving very few 'premium' items such as officer dropsuit/weapons and when they do its only between 1-4 units and perhaps 2-3 drops out of around 50 keys.
If strongboxes were limited to just 'premium' items such as officer dropsuits, weapons, BPOs, quafe vehcile BPCs ect then more peopel would be willign to buy them with a guarantee that you might not get anything too amazing but you'll at least get 3 officer weapons for your 800AUR with the chance of a BPO if you get really lucky.
the majority of stuff i've received when opening boxes has been frontline/defender mk-IIs which for new players maybe great but i'm at 80m SP so i just feel cheated and ripped off. perhaps rewards could be tailored based on SP level? lower skilled players get higher numbers of STD/ADV gear wereas higher skilled players get PRO/OFF gear but lower number of them. leaving special items as a universal drop number

This made me feel like strongboxes was a promotion being held by a store that ordered way too many of these defender suits and could not find any other way to get rid of them. |

hahah yeah damn right. after working in retail i know that trick. "holy s**t bob, you ordered 10,000 frontline-IIs not a 1000. we're gonan have to try off load these f**kers to anyone that walks through the door"

I opened a few lockboxes.
Never looked at them again after seeing the contents.
Unless the BPOs all have a decent drop rate, I won't bother.
I'll just pony up ISk to that one newb who got the one I want on his first box.

I don't mind that strongboxes are in the game.
I want to know what I am spending money on, so I won't pay for decryptor keys, but acquiring keys as battle salvage is fun.
I don't mind that cool items are in strongboxes, but I think that there should be an alternate way of acquiring those items for those who don't gamble.
Maybe some folks think that strongboxes are fun, while others enjoy planning their expenses. There is room for both. I'm requesting that CCP cater to both kinds of players.

I dont care what they do as long as they stop the freaking strongbox spam.
To whom within CCP it may concern,
Just because I have thousands of boxes in inventory does not mean I will pay to open them. In fact it makes me less likely to open any as their abundance only further signifies the uselessness of said boxes.

Fail

It succeeds in making CCP wheelbarrows full of cash.

Agreed, the ends justify the means when it comes to business.
I suppose I meant a fail in rationale. CCGs work because when you get dups or worthless crap, then you can cash them in and get the goodies you want. I don't think that CCP has implemented a CCG compliant system yet, but if they are raking in loads of cash, then who can argue with that? Honestly, I don't follow their financial positions.
I think there's room for both strongboxes and marketplace offerings. Different strokes for different folks. |

In the end, player trading means someone paid for AUR, which means CCP gets to continue making garbage bags full of cash.
Another improvement would be a token-based system. Instead of granting a specific BPO the strongboxes would randomly give out 'Quafe' vouchers. These vouchers can be turned in for a single BPO of your choice. At least then we are promised a BPO that we would actually use.
Oh, and that keymaker subsystem needs to hurry up.

No. This would make the value worthless and them not unique. I guess its just me but having something that nobody or few people have is a perk in my book. I love the idea.
