I'm just going to briefly post the thought I had regarding vehicles (someone may have got here first)
Currently our Vehicles have H/L slots (And CCP have confirmed no increases here) Where our Eve counterparts have Mid slots adding more variety...
So I am proposing that the Pilot suit acts as a Mid slot for Vehicles, Vehicles stay the same, and the Pilot suits are introduced with the ability to fit vehicle modules Maybe the race could dictate what modules can be used or add bonuses to correct modules
This way Rattati gets the tanks he wants (no slot changes) And Pilots get the extra slots for modules (via equiping them on a Pilot suit)
Vehicles are a good part of the game, and adding this as a specialist role could work well.

Vehicles are getting more slots, as per the updated spreadsheet. Cal HAV will now have a 5/2 layout, UHAV(Marauder) and DHAV(Enfocer) will get a 4/1 layout. He will be adding Gallente tomorrow
Dedicated Shield Tanking vet since Open Beta.

High Slots in Dust are Medium Slots in EVE. With some exceptions, pretty much any module you see in a Medium Slot in EVE, goes into a High Slot in Dust. High Slots in EVE are basically your weapon slots in Dust. It's all the same, just named differently.
And HAVs are having an increase to 7 slots for main tanks, specialist tanks will maintain 5 slots.

Pokey is correct, but to piggyback off OP's idea, pilot suits can be used for what's called "vehicle links."
Command Links in Eve are special high slot mods that can only be fitted to certain ships (battlecruisers, command ships, T3 cruisers with a special subsystem, and some capital ships) and give varying bonuses to all ships in the fleet (shield and armor bonuses, speed and sit bonuses, etc)
Pilot suits and vehicle links can be similar. The pilot suit will have a built in bonus to fitting them (so they're unable to fit on other suits easily if at all) as well as efficacy bonuses to their racial trend (Cal shield extension, Amarr playes, Gallente repair, and Minmatar speed and shield boosting, for example). The mods themselves will either be high or slow slot, depending on the bonus (shield highs, etc), and give a bonus to a specific vehicle attribute (armor and shielding, turret damage/etc, agility and speed, etc).
Dust is there! I was real!

The document is outdated on many accounts, but see page 9 for my thoughts of Pilot suits
