This used to be CCP's wheelhouse. How the hell is opening the dC# of players not the top of all lists?
PS: I've never played Planetside, dunno how it works. Don't care. |

CCP's wheelhouse is still "lots and lots of people"... in EVE.
The above is like saying "C'mon Wizards of the Coast! Making one of the best CCG's of all time is in your wheelhouse. How are you letting Blizzard beat you at MMORPG's?!"
"This is B.S! This is B.S! I paid money! Cash money, dollars money, cash money!"

Eh, that was preplanned. I find the EMERGENTGäó happenings of New Eden much more intriguing, even if it's only like 100 people, with 32 players in one spot at at time.

While this is very impressive it only makes it more disappointing that they can not even pass 16 v 16 in Dust.
Makes you wonder how committed they ever were.

The reason this can happen in Eve is because of TIDI (Time Dialation: at it's peak, time passes at 1/10 the rate normally, so a 15m match would take 2.5hrs)

I have dealt with TiDi and IT SUCKS. Considering that does not kick in until somewhere around 1000 people in a system it still leaves a lot to the imagination on why we can not pass 16 v 16 and can not get a stable frame rate with even that.
Maybe if Dust had been an entity of its own in CCP instead of a place for them to pull devs from when they had a lot to do on Eve and a place for Eve devs to waste a little time we would not be having this conversation. This is exactly what they did with WoD and it never even made it to a playable beta so I suppose they are perfecting their very broken model.
It is really a shame that CCP lacks upper level management with any ability. A quick look up of stories from past devs really makes you wonder how they manage to keep a game in production at all.

lol imagine dust was a mmorpg where you are stuck in around a two hour battle with mercs receiving ISK for how well they did over how long they were there. just wandering around and fighting with hundreds if

Watched about an hr of that on livestreams. Gotta say I wish Faction Warfare felt like each battle was part of the bigger war. Like each base battle felt/looked significant in who ended up winning the smash over on planetside2.
TLDR : I lied, I have at least 3 more.

If you knew what was going on upstairs it sometimes does...but the limitations of 16 v 16 matches, random district allocation, and lack of direct communication with EVE pilots really undermines that after a while.

Nope. CCP has never been LIVE action encounters.
See that Lore tip called "Time Dilation"? The more ships in an area the slower time flows? That's actually their servers slowing everything down, just so they can calculate all the shots being fired.
if you did that with a FPS? Everyone suddenly slows down greatly, to about 20% of their normal speed, just so the servers can calculate all the bullets being fired? Eh. See how that works?
They never had the capacity to support large groups of players. Any lesser server can support a "larger" playerbase if you slow the signals down, and give it more time to process the data.
Many corners were cut. People got Shanghai'd. Much chaos.
