Background: CCP created Eve many moons ago. Through countless expansions (meaning I don't feel like counting how many right now), Eve became a very convoluted place regarding the spaceships which capsuleers flew. CCP had introduced ship classes (Frigates, Cruisers, etc), and within each class there were tiers. The Minmatar Battleships class, for example had the Typhoon, Tempest, and Maelstrom, with the Typhoon being the least of the three, and Maelstrom being the greatest. These tiers caused an imbalance issue, and caused the lower tiered ship of each class to be under utilized and relegated to an ad hoc role.
To resolve this issue, CCP began was became affectionately referred to as GÇ£tiericideGÇ¥. The goal of this massive undertaking: eliminate the concept of tiers, and put all ships of a same class on the same level by giving each specialized roles in the game. This has been largely effective in balancing gameplay in Eve, and with promoting the use of the lesser used ships.
Because Eve had been around for a decade, the process of tiericide has taken literally years to accomplish, and is still ongoing; while the ship tiericide is now complete, the modules are following.
Proposal: Dust514 needs its own tiericide now, while the number of Dropsuits and modules in the game are relatively small. A full tiericide will take considerable time to complete, though the end results of racial parity in the game, re-balancing of protostomping without restricting who can enter a battle, and closing the gap between new and veterans players would be well worth the time in my opinion.
Obstacles: The road to tiericide in Dust514 is fraught with obstacles, including 1) an inability to easily introduce new variations of suits; 2) skill point bonuses which are tied to specific skillbooks, instead of to dropsuits; 3) a lack of racial parity for heavy weapons and equipment
Suggested Solution: In order to accomplish what I propose, the obstacles above need to be addressed. This will be a long process, and is by no means a quick fix to issues faced in the game
I have developed a three part process to accomplish these goals as they relate to Dropsuits tiericide. I will leave modules, weapons and vehicles for another discussion. In fact, I suspect leaving tiered weapons in the game will cause unique gameplay with the changes to Dropsuits I propose (you will need to find the right balance of tank, weapon, and other modules that fit your playstyle within each class and with each Dropsuits allowing for even more customizable play).
Each of the three parts in the process will receive its own threads. Please use this parent thread as a way to discuss the overall concept of tiericide as a whole, and use the child threads as a way to discuss the specific changes outlined within the proposal.
