I've been an EWAR Cal scout since the day it was announced. I have perfect scanning skills, rarely do my suits exceed 300-500ehp and I don't even have any skills into armor plating or repairs. The recent changes to passive scans have made the scan range on the Cal scout virtually worthless, even being matched by logi suits in terms of scan range and effective scan precision (both suits scan assault suits equally well). I don't even see a noticeable difference between my Cal and Min scouts in terms of scan range.
Over all I am genuinely displeased with the changes. It has nullified the Cal scout's scan range bonus to nothing and has made the suit little more than a weaker assault. I would like to suggest some changes that will help, both to buff passive scans and keep them balanced.
The Buffs:
-Change the short/normal/falloff scan ranges to 25%/75%/100%.
-Buff Proto range amplifiers to x1.2-1.25.
-Change scout's base scan range to 25m, I'd also like to reduce logi's to 20m but it's not that important.
These changes will give scouts (especially the Cal scout) a stronger niche in EWAR as well as make using range amps worthwhile. Here is what the stats will look like compared to the current stats.
However, there is one major change that I would like to limit the effectiveness of passive scans:
-Remove passive scan chevrons from the HUD, only displaying them on the mini-map.
This will make the passive scan a target indicator more so than a target locater. It will tell you that there is an enemy close and its general direction, but not over the head of the target. It will also limit the "team scanning" by only letting people in the vicinity share the scan on their mini-map rather than across the whole map.
Thanks for reading and I hope you consider these changes.

Range amplifiers were nerfed -far- too heavily.
I'd give you a +1, but my like button is broken again.

Maybe I am confused on the ranges, but I thought Short Range was already 0-25%, Medium was already 26-75%, and Long 76% plus.
Otherwise, I don't think the range buff to he range mod was too big to cause any problems.
On the HUD suggestion, I would ask for a caveat that it still be available if you have LoS on the enemy. This way, there isn't the wall hack problem, but at the same time those of us who are color blind and can't always pick things up too well still have a little assistance when we have LoS.

scout ewar does need a complete rework, its not something useful the suits have anymore its something you need to put 101 mods in to get.
the only scout which works EWAR wise for me is a cal scout with 2 range extenders in the lows and 2 precision enhancers in the high with a extender. thats with full lvl 5 passives and complex mods |

LoS scanning would still be in effect as it is currently, which is separate from passive scanning and can only be beaten by cloaks.

I agree that the scanning range changes really hurt the Cal Scouts real purpose (scanning stuff!). I think the big problem is the range amplifiers are really underpowered right now, the scanning patch nerfed them into the ground. This is probably hurting the Amar scout alot as well.
I also like the suggestion to remove passive scanned chevrons from the HUD. |

I'm okay with the logistics having better range, because the same update lowered the precision and profile of assault suits by five, taking away the previous advantage of logistics.
If this game was fun, I wouldn't be playing it.

I have enough time and range that when I see a red on my radar I can cloak and bug out to a safer location undetected.

I have enough time and range that when I see a red on my radar I can cloak and bug out to a safer location undetected. The problems are:
1) It's not much better than a Logi at its role, both in precision and range.
2) ~32m isn't nearly far enough to make a significant difference. That's well within even AR range. If it's meant to be a long range recon scout (as hinted by the bonuses and racial APEX fit) it needs to be longer. The fact that logis are even competing with it blows my mind.
My changes will give the Cal scout a strong niche, but keep them balanced. Assaults and logis can easily get below their medium scans with proper investment, and to pick them up a Cal scout mic sacrifice 3-4 of it total 6 slots while relying on its weak shields for defense. Also they're scannable by logis when range fit. Also, with the chevron change only allies in the vicinity will share the scout's passive scans.
