Okay, while I hate myself an HMG drive-by just like anyone else, you must consider the key characteristic of an LAV
An LAV exposes all passengers and driver. Thus when I go in a spin in my Methana I'm using a 'Skinweave' Amarr Heavy. It's just ******** to use any other suit if you drive or sit in an LAV. Anybody who takes LAVs more seriously will always use cheap-heavy fits because it is the most logical and rational thing to do.
Meanwhile jackasses are pulling gremlin stunts and abusing the entrance/exit mechanism. Problem! - cried the community and they debated and butted heads on how to solve the problem. Some people are offering the 'Heavies excluded' scenario as a fix it but that just breaks the LAV. If I have to be in a suit with less health than a heavy to drive a vehicle that exposes my body to all the flying things in the air that can kill me and the lasers, pew pew, then it just makes the LAV that much worse of an option.
People go off spewing how heavies would "realistically be too big to fit". Well, realistically, if you are designing a car with the intent of big armored clones driving them, you would design the car so that every big armored clone could fit because why not?
I'm not directing this towards anyone in particular but this has been your public service announcement.

This is a prototype-level sig. I worked hard for it, and I'm going to use it every time. So, just get used to it.

Realistically, moronic designers would be fired for making a combat vehicle that is unfit for combat.
Then, the combat incapable LAV would be scrapped, and new designers would be brought in to design an LAV that protects the occupants.
