With the current setup, every suit and weapon type has a Standard, Advanced, and Prototype tier. The two questions that I ask myself often we I'm looking at this is, "Do all these things need all three tiers? And is this a balance Issue within itself?"
I kept my mind on the suits because if it is a balance issue, suits would be easier to reorganize. Now, I'm not complaining about the current tier setup(If I sounded like I was), this is more of a "what if we did it THIS way" post. Below is an alternate setup I came up with. The idea is to remove advanced and prototypes from the basic frames, and remove standard and prototype from the specialized suits. All specialized suits would be advanced tiers branching out from standard frames.
Standard Tier Basic frames of light, medium, and heavy.
Advanced Tier Specialized suits such as pilot, sentinel, and assault.
Prototype Tier Polarized Performance Suits. (Or something else.)
So how would you setup the weapon and suit tiers if you could change them?
---If you rather not read about my PPS idea, then you don't need to read any further than this.---
Polarized Performance Suits is an idea of mine inspired by EVE Online's new polarized weapons. Modified variants of specialized suits that excel at one thing but lack in the other. Each specialized suit would have two prototypes branch out from it like how two specialized suits branch out from the basic frames. Some get a unique effect from certain moduals.
For example. Let's say we have a Caldari Assault Suit, One Polarized variant would excel at defense and holding out againt an attack as long as possible. 5% of hit points given by shield extenders are reduced to give a 1% to 5% bonus to the shield's splash dmg resistance, the suit also carries more ammo, how much ammo and how much splash resistance each extender gives you depends on the player's skill lvl in using this particular suit. However, it has no sidearm slot, only one equipment slot, and does not have the reload speed perk that it's predecessor has. |

I'm liking the direction tanks are going where the frames all have the same number of slots but vary in PG/CPU to fit higher meta mods. As things are currently, higher tiered suits get the luxury or both higher meta AND more mods, meaning more variety as well as effectiveness.
