Along time ago, I saw Rattati say in a post (while randomly reading) that the current have turrets(large) are av turrets. With the bringing back of the old tanks and various tweaks, I'd like 2 new turrets. Both AP
Amarr laser cannons
Take the missile launcher design, take each of the pods on it and make them Gatling laser cannons. It's would basically be a HUGE hmg that shoots lasers =ƒÿü. Make the reticule somewhat bigger than Gallente blaster. 100 m range. Very low damage per bullet (laser) but 6 cannons on each side is a lot so it will be worth it. Causes damge to multiple enemies at a time with lasers going EVERYWHERE.
Minmatar explosive round cannon
Take gallente blaster and caldari cannon and mix the designs to make a rusty minmatar turret. Fires an explosive round that is great for both av and ap. Very low ammo and low rof. High damage. 3 m direct damage of 2000 (or so, feel free to adjust) 50% damage from 3-6 meters. 25% damage at 6-9 meters.
What do you think?

1. Large missile turrets were AP because a 6ft missile had alot of splash damage - It got nerfed
2. Large blaster was AP and accurate, where you aimed with your dot is where you hit so accurate pilots got kills - it got nerfed and accuracy replaced by luck
3. Small blasters were terrible to begin with but they got nerfed anyways and accuracy replaced with luck
4. Small railguns can be good at AP - Infantry are now crying that its too accurate and that it should be an AV turret
5. Any turrets which are AP are quickly set upon by infantry who then cry and get them nerfed - i wouldnt bother OP they would only get nerfed |

I'd rather have the Large Variants be AV, while having the small variants be AP.
Maybe we could re-color a 20GJ Blaster and have it fire a laser for the Small Laser Cannon variant and have a 20GJ Autocannon which fires a crap ton of rockets with a large AoE but low damage at an extremely high RoF.

5. Which is exactly what Pilots do about AV weapons when they're viable. However unlike Infantry most Pilots are incapable of forming a coherent argument so the nerf part rarely happens.

1. If you dont think a 6ft missile should cause enough splash to kill at least a scout then what can i say apart from idiot
2. If you dont think i should be rewarded for a kill with my aim and accuracy then again what can i say apart from idiot
3. Small have been nerfed with dispersion and my aim no longer matters and has been replaced with luck
4. You want them you find them
5. Viable - You mean swarms which can lock on through cover/terrain and then fire without looking at the target and then missiles which can be invisible and go around 3 corners and doing a 245deg turn on the spot before moving at top speed which require zero aim and skill to use |

Not really. As Atiim stated, Large Turrets are for killing large things, and Small Turrets are for killing small things. People will whine that this isn't realistic, but Proper Gameplay > Realism.
I think of it as a gradient scale. For example a Large Railgun is almost entirely AV, but does have very limited AP capabilities. Whereas say a Large Autocannon should still be mostly AV, but to a lesser extent than the Railgun...however its AP capabilities are higher than that of the Railgun.
The inverse applies for Small turrets in that they're primarily AP, but do have some AV application. So a Small Blaster should be amazing at AP with very limited AV ability. The small Rail should also be AP, but to a lesser extent than the blaster, but also sport better AV capability.
Obviously the turrets are not currently working quite like this, but in my opinion that's how they should work.

Oh well. See, Ive skilled into everything. And the last couple of times I've used tanks, they have been very crappy experiences. From my av point of view, av weapons are almost perfect and are very effective. Now tanks to troops, not so good. Like stated above, all current turrets are mostly av now but are somewhat effective against infantry. The missiles aren't very good at ai. I feel they are to accurate and need more splash damge and radius to be effective at ai. The large blaster is currently the best at ai, after it got nerfed and tweaked. From a tanker point of view, I don't care about infantry complaining of these two turrets above being op. They are made for anti infantry and should be used as so. Av is strong right now. So give tanks a better way to counter them.

I like the ideas, might need some work on numbers though (AOE damage falloff for the min cannon should probably be much higher and start a little lower) |

Atiim, this is why I want tanks to be difficult to solo, because the significant threat to infantry would be via small turrets and therefore would require 2 players in the tank |

You know, I really, really try to see the positive in generally bad posts. But Lazer Fo Cosed is one of the most infuriating commenters to read. And I don't even disagree with the heart of what he's saying. Vehicles should be more viable than what they are now.
But when you look at a link where a Dev(eloper) explains the design goals of a turret and just give your own irrelevant quip, its ridiculous. It's one thing to have an argument and look for an answer. Its another thing to have an argument and ignore the answer because it doesn't line up with what you think is right.
If I wanted more of that, I'd be religious.

Thing is we understand the Large Blaster is not an Anti Infantry Turret.....but it functions like one any rapid firing gun like this that functions on a DPS basic with triple digit RoF values will not suffice for an Anti Vehicle Gun.
It's currently like CCP is trying to glue a 25mm Auto Cannon to the top an armoured platform and trying to yell "Hey guys get your tanks while you can".
If we're seeomg these super powerful things like Forgeguns, Plasma Cannon, and Swarm Launchers having to work to knock out HAV you'd damn well need a lot more than the Large Blaster can provide to penetrate that tank armour.
