As someone who has done this and also fell victim to qsynk stomps I have came the conclusion that this is actually really bad for player retention especiallythe poor wee newberries that have just graduated from the academy. This evening on the euro server (I'm scottish so it makes sence to play on the EU server) I have fought along side and against a certain corp of ( American players) qsynk stomping their way through npc sided teams (obviously stroking their ehherm guns ) any one who thinks this is really going to help player retention need their head examined. This can't actually be fun or even a challenge for the synkers if they wanted a chalange they would actually go to fw or pc bit hey who am I to judge .
There a few things I think would help if say you and your team want to qsynk why shouldn't you ... why hasn't ccp gave us a team deploy option that would put you against other stacked squads because if your goal is just to stomp new players that's kind of sad .
why havent we got a squads only mode this would make sence
why havent we got an extended academy the time in there is too short for any new player to grasp even the basic mechanics of the game
What's everyone's thoughts on this ?

Qsyncing should be reserved for FW.
The good news is that team balancing should even out this practice in pubs, for the most part. |

Back in 2012 or so....me and my guys would Q-sync up and it was all I wanted to do. There was no way in hell I wanted to roll into protostomper pubs without 12 of MY most trusted associates with me.
Literally...back then, pre-1.7....we would get into a match (all 12 of us) and there was only a chance of 4 stupid blueberries who were farming and usually 1 of them actually wanted to play so 3 blueberries that were useless, 1 guy who was out of his element and me and my guys who were organized and each had a role.
That's the only way I wanted to play and it was really fun until 1.7 came, killed this game and everyone faded away. We never recovered from that...most of my guys went on to play Destiny or EVE and I don't hardly play Dust anymore and I cancelled my EVE subscription.
Q-syncing isn't the problem...matchmaking is the problem. We should be able to team deploy! |

We used to do the same in project 9 way back in the day but we used to comeup against other stacked squads we also used to have corp battles as well

I don't think I've ever run into a qsync in a pub...
Taking out tanks and heavys, with a set of knives.

it's not them to blame it's the game.. yea they can goto FW or PC to que sync but not everyone wants to go negative isk all night.. i'm not aware of any FPS community out there that goes easy on it's noobs for the sole sake of retention.. if the game can't retain ppl it's not the players faults for wanting to play together with their friends in the same match using leveled up gear they earned.. it's not our responsibility to retain noobs it's CCPs. many suggestions for the problem have been made and most have been ignored. why? because if a new player is having too easy of a time he doesn't need to buy arum.
the qsyncers are forced to qsync in order to deal with the possibility of an enemy qsync. the noobs get caught in the cross fire and then it all gets blamed on ppl who want to play with all their friends. the fact that pubs are the most attractive option as far as isk is concerned doesn't help the problem.

From what I understand of the team balancing q-syncs in pubs are no longer supposed to be possible.
In fact, multiple squads against solos aren't supposed to be possible, but I have definitely seen the latter, though they were always squads from different corps.

In other FPS games, the franchise has such a large fanbase already that player retention isn't that big of a problem as it is on DUST. DUST has a very small playerbase compared to most FPS. In the other ones, when vets stomp out one noob, three noobs roll in. DUST needs something that keeps the noobs from quitting like longer academy times to play with other noobs.

well there is the workaround of making an academy alt account/delete to stay in academy, plus one fresh alt last about 2 hours now in academy.. but it's not an obvious workaround to a new player. they no longer get kicked out at 1200wp, they seem to get kicked out after making 1.5mil in isk.

I agree with you And there should be more game modes and options as you mentioned
At the very least a second pub with different rewards where you either can't use a Mic or have squads
Bandwidth has somehow made the problem worse ( or at least much more noticeable)
They could also try fixing some hit detection issues and those annoying corner kills ( when it looks like you made it to cover but you die anyway )

It's what has been said for years.
We originally got 6 member squads to get ready for upcomming PC feature in DUST...
We never had PC or FW then so every corporation ran around with full squads in public matches... We all cried for a 6 man squad so we could have more friends with us as usually 1-2 are left out..
The main problem with a squad size of 4.... Is that transportation doesn't make much sense... Dropships are pretty much a useless concept in the game and caters nothing to being the only built for troop transport vehicle in the game...
That currently is only being dominated by players who want it to be an Floating air slayer... Not actually a support vehicle which it was intended for and told to us by CCP through several fanfests...
LAv's hold 3 people always leaving 1 out... Tanks 3...
4 man squads would balance alot in pubs and give the matchmaker more options... The only problem is 4 man squads was never supported in concept at all by CCP Shanghai. |
