have such damn good instrumentals and vocals, but the lyrics are literally so **** it hurts? Recently saw a EVE PVP video featuring a couple clips of him in various ships. In the video, he had three songs. One was an EDM/Hip Hop mash up, not really my thing. Another was a a song by Incubus, which is alright but again not quite my thing.
The last song had some really nice catchy melodic riffs. I googled the first line of the chorus and the song was The Robot With Human Hair Pt.4 by a band Dance Gavin Dance.
I've heard them before hand but always tossed them out as just another probably meh band. I went off for hours and listened to all their albums and was mostly surprised with how good their music was. There was just that one thing, god their lyrics make me cringe so hard.
As an example in the aforementioned song there's this
Hang on, hang on Don't lose composure now Hang on hang on Feed into the miracle Don't be ******* cynical Hang on, hang on Don't lose composure now Hang on hang on Girl don't be so difficult Come here let's get physical
How can such a good band have such awful lyrics. It only gets worse the more I listen.
You guys ever have this happen? What are you all listening to?

Come play a better game.

Generally when people aren't literate/creative enough to make good lyrics, their instrumentals aren't much better. So this is a phenomena I haven't been exposed to really.
From what I can hear the instrumental is relatively complex, so the melody can't be too complex because it would clash in a way that would make it sound like a mess. So that "hang on" bit is the product of that. They could have made made it more complex while avoiding that, but in this instance the artist took a minimalist approach and just used 2 notes(syllables being "hang on") to allow the melody to come out.
I'm not a big fan of "whatever you call genre without offending anyone or going into trivial arguments," at least I haven't been since a couple years ago, because the genre has been clearly deteriorating. This is decent, but I generally don't have an exclusive genre, so I like most things.

I feel what you have to say, though a melody has many uses and it may have been misunderstood. By melody, I mean the melody of the instrumentals, occasionally followed by the vocals. Sorry if that was unclear.
I've always been a fan of metal/rock/insertbsgenrename that holds a lot progression in the guitar melodies throughout the song.
One of the things that initially drew me in was the style of clean vocals, of which reminded me of Circa Survive, of who I'm a pretty big fan of. As for their instrumentals, it reminds me of a strange mix of The Fall of Troy and Lydia(the group not the artist).
I've been doing back flips off the doorway to the cellar, man

There is no such thing as bad music, just bad taste.
Don't think about that, think about all the money.

Little strange. check it this is the lead track and a fairly solid indicator of the rest of the album, it's an odd album they mostly dropped the really heavy distortion and do a lot more acoustic stuff but it's still arranged the same. First time I heard it I wasn't sure if I liked or not so I gave it another try, now one of my favorite albums in years.
