Tracks on a tank? Wheels on a jeep? Dropship and LAV gunners exposed to enemy fire without any form of cover?
WHO DESIGNED THESE THINGS?!
Come oooonnn. There are freaking Titans in space and the best CCP could come up with are these many millenia year-old pieces of junk? The design team must have been Minmatar. Yep, that sounds about right. |

Exposed LAV gunner?
That's just economics. The corporations are obviously holding out better designs because they want things to be lost on the battlefield so that people will buy them more.
I mean if they made a nearly indestructible vehicle people would buy them less because they would rarely loose them.
Why do you think Logistic vehicles are gone? They were too durable and so people bought less of them. The corporations saw this and retracted their vehicles in favor of less durable frames.
You have to keep up the demand to sell your supply.
Put your flags up in the sky.
And wave them side to side.
Show the world where you're from.
Show the world we are one.

Conventional seems to work best.
What were you expecting?
Hover tanks? Depending on how dense the alloys used in construction are it may not even be possible to create a hovering tank using the vehicles on board power supplies?

It makes sense. Warfare will not always involve the highest technology of the day in all situations, especially if cost is a factor.
I mean, not to do the whole "real life" comparison too bad, but yeah, it can be a good example. Its 2015, we got drones, satellites, precision nukes, guns that can shoot around corners.....and wars are still being fought by people wearing fabric for protection and carrying around an assault rifle designed 50 years ago.
In the EVE universe, I would imagine that because so much is dependent on star fleets, all of the prime technology and resources goes to the civilian and military fleets, while us mercs get whatever rudimentary packages or equipment they got. I mean, all that r&d money, stuff like that, there is no point is striving to further develop a technology (heavy and light wheeled attack vehicles) when they serve a very small purpose in the bigger scheme of things.
Then, of course, there is always the desire of companies to make their products as failsafe as possible. Any hover vehicles would be subject to severe power outages in the event of a flux attack. Wheeled vehicles will have their electronics rebooted, but the powertrain and vehicle supports stay online because they are mechanical. Imagine a 2.5 million ISK hovertank losing its repulsorlifts and crashing down onto its chassis, ruining it. All because of a militia flux grenade? Not a good product. |
