Have any of you ever come across a player you can just tell is fresh out of the academy and instead of slaying him outright you sparred instead?
For example, I'm in a match and I see a red and pop him in a split second. Then I get curious and scope his fallen dropsuit and see MLT. Suddenly I'm feeling guilty wondering "Am I wrecking a new player's NPE?"
A little while later I happen upon him again, but this time I play it different. I know there are no other reds around so I pull out my smg and tap a few quick rounds into him to get his attention. His reaction was pretty bad, comedic flailing would sum it up best. So I continued to tap a few rounds here and there, enough to drain him but not put him down too quick; I wanted to let him get some fight on.
Is this something anybody else does? Let a new player last a bit longer so they get the feel for the game and not send them away raging? I am not suggesting babying them, more like coaching before you K them.
Yes? No?

What you are suggesting theoretically will simply extend the period of time in which a new player will tolerate the game before quitting. Eventually, a player will have to learn the mechanics of this game. By design, this game isn't fair. We may not like that it isn't fair, but that is its design. Until the design changes, there is no reason to lie to players by making the game feel more fair than it really is.
In summation, no I won't go easy on them and neither should you. If that's a problem, then CCP should address it to raise their income, not us to save their unsuccessful design (If it is indeed unsuccessful). It's not our fault that they haven't created a meaningful NPE. |

I run pretty much only std (bpo) or adv gear in pubs. And sometimes I play recklessly if there seems to be a lot of noobs in the match.
This sometimes means getting wrecked by proto douches but whatever they need to feel good about themselves. |

The bad thing about this is that my 200 EHP knife scout cant handle toying with a MLT frame. I can't tell you how many times a Caldari Frontline turned around and saw me, held R1 and killed me. I have no mercy for when I lose suits even more costly. The only time I "spare" someone is when I see a gallente Sniper fit in the hills and I wait till he shoots to stab him.
Though if I have my cheap Min Assault out I'll let em be.

So you want players to put their egos and precious KDR aside, that would be an excellent thesis on human psychology. As the player base decreases from stomping new players into the dirt, the players that are left have to fight each other constantly. Many after dying a few times or going against someone better they seem to fade into the background or leave the match.Maybe think about helping new players instead, I didn't get any help or mercy mentality doesn't make it ok for you to be a pompous monkey's butt. Grow the player base or be the last one standing there with your hand on your tool, you decide. |

There was a video a long time ago that woudl apply perfectly to this thread....
basically the guy who was taking the vid was a gk.0 logi and was going to take a point on line harvest. hes at the terminal starting the hack, but hes positioned in such a way that he can see anyone who comes down the stairs as he hacks. a lone redberry, in a starter suit, runs down the stairs and starts shooting at the gk.0 (whom was wielding a duvolle AR). the new guy barely hit the GK.0 and just kept jumping around like crazy so as to avoid getting shot....the Gk.0 on the other had simply shot a few shots off and backed away from the terminal and ran out of the building so as to avoid the newby....
most heartwarming thing ive seen on dust (that pertains to things ingame at least)
