If Logi's are to lose their main weapon and stripped down the bare minimum in offensive combat, they better get a repair tool that rivals that of Remote Reps in EVE. As in, more than capable of completely negating incoming DPS on whatever they're repping. Repair Tools in Dust are sad excuses for something carrying the title "Logistics" in the EVE universe. We're talking like a 500% increase in HP/s
Personally I don't really see why people are so keen on stripping the Light Weapon away from the Logistics. There seems to be this false notion that Logistics in Dust are supposed to be purely medics, but if that were the case they wouldn't be sporting scanners, uplinks, hives, ect. Repairing is of course one of the main functions of the Logistics, but it is not the only thing they do.
Quite simply Logistics is "Support" and support can come in many different forms. Medical Support, Resource Procurement, Personnel and Asset Transportation, and Combat Support. Its a hybrid of several subroles that culminate into the singular "Support" role. Even things as simple as apply additional or indirect DPS to a target, or clearing an objective of remotes before hacking. These are all part of its Combat Support role, and many of which require a light weapon and/or grenade to properly execute.
Additionally it can often be more advantageous for a Logistics to pull out its light weapon (which does significantly more DPS than his rep tool can negate) and help his Heavy finish off a target faster, which means less time spent repairing the lost HP on said heavy. So I know its easy to say "Oh just remove their light weapon so they're force to play support!" but here is the deal, that light weapon is a big part of their ability to play support. You take that away, and you wont be making their ability to support better, you'll be making it much much worse.
Now as I mentioned before, if you made their reps are powerful as they would be in EVE (Logistics ships in EVE don't have weapons, but they're extremely tanky and capable of repping much faster than incoming DPS), then I might buy the Sidearm Only concept, but honestly I think that's dangerous territory and you're best left keeping the Logistics and a hybrid role.
