Sneak up on people and use it. It does so much damage, fires so slowly that people will generally not immediately react to being hit the first time. It gives off a lot less noise so you can often fire it without people around you realizing you are there. I use it with my Scout suit.

Fizzer got the ranges correct.
I disagree about damage mods on alpha weapons like the bolt (or the BrScP). Without exception I prefer other things for my highs, as the additional damage from damage mods never seems to result in faster kills (i.e. one less bullet). |

No to damage mods, ppl generally die in 2-3 shots, dmg mods wont really change that

I keep trying but I am better with a breach scrambler. I will have to use the breach scrambler until I have enough skills to max the bolt pistol so even my horrible shooting will work

FWIW, I could never get used to the spool up time and slow RoF of the Bolt Pistol. It wasn't for lack of trying, but the ScP just worked better in my hands. I suspect the same may be true for you. |

I'm not really recommending using damage mods for an increased TTK in than manner. I'm reccomending them for uber-powerful headshots.
If you do it right, most people will die in 1 hit. Some will take 2. Very few will take 3.

No to damage mods, it makes a crappy backup sidearm (outclassed by the SMG and scrambler/ion/flaylock pistols) but makes a very good compliment to a heavy machine gun or shotgun fitting. |
