Hi,
I don't think there will be much disagreement when I postulate that, if you want to fly a dropship of any type successfully, you have to fit an afterburner (AB). I would be more than happy to learn of any reasonable non-AB fittings, but I've not been able to produce one on any of the 4 DS.
This makes the AB a non-choice for DS-pilots. I'd like to change that. However I don't want to nerf the AB as that would reduce the survivability of DS. Instead I'm looking to exclusively buff the survivability of non-AB fittings.
I'd thus like to suggest to increase the fitting requirements of afterburners while simultaneously buffing the fitting capacity of all 6 DS by the same amount.
I expect this to have the following consequences: - If you fit an AB, everything stays the same. - If you don't fit an AB, you'll have more fitting resources than before.
Is this an agreeable suggestion?
Now for the hard part, numbers: I find it difficult to find a direct fitting equivalent of not fitting an AB. An AB is an active module, thus comparable to a light shield booster, but it has different cooldown times. I also consider the AB to be more useful than a shield booster because being out of range entirely is better than still being in range with 900 more hp. That said I'll go ahead and compare a basic AB with a complex light shield booster because they have similar cooldown times. If I look at my own fittings I'm not sure I'd even make that trade if I could, so I think this is more a conservative guess. Going of that comparison the AB uses 125 less CPU (after shield fitting optimization 5) and 59 more PG (source: protofits). Since I want both CPU- and PG-heavy dropships to profit from this change I'll thus suggest the following:
Increase all afterburner fitting requirements by 75 CPU and 75 PG. Buff all 6 dropship fitting resources by 75 CPU and 75 PG.
This results in the following fitting requirements for afterburners: Militia: 105 CPU / 174 PG Standard: 100 CPU / 165 PG Enhanced: 122 CPU / 209 PG Complex: 137 CPU / 243 PG
For the six dropships this results in the following fitting capacities: Viper: 737 CPU / 795 PG Myron: 810 CPU / 875 PG Python: 835 CPU / 885 PG Gorgon: 525 CPU / 1011 PG Grimsnes: 575 CPU / 1115 PG Incubus: 590 CPU / 1130 PG
Considering that right now dropships without ABs are almost non-existent - as far as I'm aware - I don't expect this minor buff to turn non-AB dropships into floating fortresses. I just hope that we get closer to a scenario where a dropship without an AB can actually survive for a bit. |
