So after a while of playing Assault/Minmando I skilled into Scout level 1. However, it seems that there's no point running Scout suits until you've skilled it higher for the Cloak requirement reduction. My scout atm runs a STD cloak, STD SG, Enh CardReg and a Basic Pg upgrade because the cloak takes up most of my pg/cpu.
I then bought the ADV scout suit from the Lp store, and it's still not much better. I can fit an Uplink and Basic Myofibril as well on it.
So my question is this, is there any point running Scout below skilling up to level 5? If so, what levels for the relevant mods do you suggest?

Idk, I didn't bother using it till I was lvl 5 for the same exact reason. Maybe you could just run it without the cloak till you get it leveled up....

This is what I thought, but using Kincats leaves it with not a lot of health, and getting picked off by just about anything got annoying really quickly. Think I'll just continue skilling up the necessary stuff, and see when it gets to the sweet spot.

You could still use it in the mean time, just play smart and stealthy. I use a non cloaked fit to run in to the point on doms, drop an re and wait for the first sucker to try and hack. You can sneak around the boundaries and pick off snipers and stragglers without a cloak, but if you insist on being cloaked, yeah, wait for lvl 5 to get the bonus.

And even at lvl 5 you're gunna want to make sure your cores are up because it takes every last drop of pg/cpu to fit a min scout properly. You may even eventually need to put a few points into fitting optimization on your weapons

Until you get Scout 4 or 5, forgo the cloak.
This is what I hate about the current skill bonuses. I'd rather have Eve-style bonuses where you get:
1) Role bonus: An innate bonus to the class of suits that is static (i.e. doesn't increase with levels); not on all suits, just as needed (e.g. scouts and cloaks)
2) Class bonus: A bonus granted from leveling up the class skill
3) Racial Bonus: A bonus granted from leveling up the racial hull skill (this would give the Frame skill a purpose)

Never used a cloak, still dont. Scouts are damn good without them, using line of sight, damps, speed, smarts, and the surrounding combat/ teammates is better than a cloak imo.

If you want to run a cloak on a scout, it's go 5 or go home.
Otherwise, the cloak just eats up too many cpu/pg and it gimps your fittings.
If you can live without a cloak, you can settle for less....but really, you should proto out the suit for the racial bonuses even if you only use STD or ADV suits as each of the races become that much better as a result.
So, with scouts, it's pretty much go proto or go home (skills wise if not suit-wise). |

first off you don't need a cloak, if your ewar is not up to par you will be still easily seen on the tac net and will be caught with your little man flapping in the breeze.
now minja scout is not a ewar scout. the best you can hope for is not to be seen on the tac or be scanned by casual scanners. your advantages are your shields, speed, stamina regen, fists of fury and of course the knife.
now going for speed is fun but your weapons need to reflect your lack of tank so high alpha weapons are your friends. don't pair knives with a shotty, as in not now and maybe not ever. some like jolly and dominance make it work with great success but im gonna assume your a true new bro to bastardhood so lets run before raptor jumping okay.
first the shotgun. ahhhhh the baby of many a scout and the the easier than knives to get a feel for as your range is roughly 7 meters and not 1. good alpha at even standard level with a nice big circle of death to point at peoples faces for some good old fashioned surgery. has some hit detection issues at odd moments but as a rule is fairly stable right now. a few good combos with the shogun are. breech scrambler pistol; a monster in the right hands this baby is a headshoters wet dream. slow but a good rof, high damage and a great scout killer. the bolt pistol; a ohk against fellow minjas of standard or advance level with great range. good rof with very high finish damage or even used to take fools out from afar. the ion pistol; i know but the quick spam-able rof and the great finish potential of the charge shot is surpringly awesome.
now knives. get advance first then play with them. i feel a smg or combat rifle is the best combo with knives. use your knives as your alpha and a large portion of reds will be either dead or low so a quick spray with either will get the job done. my preference is the six kin smg as all dat ammo means a free slot where ammo would go. *\o/*
now for the huge maps with alot of open ground between points can be a ***** for us minja's so shields, a reactive plate and a green jar a good combo paired with a long range weapon is a good way to survive until your more comfortable with a shotgun or knives. again the combat rifle is a good gun to have and as fellow min you should have that a good level. mass driver apparently is also pretty kick ass on the minja as well but ehhhh not my cup of tea so cant give any advice on that. breech ar is also very good primary to have on you.
now fist of fury. for the love of god use your assault suit for that. more tank, can have near the same speed and just better at it. christ you have a mando use the bastard to crack heads open.
now as a minja is not a walking scanner.... carry one. yes i am serious. and don't call me surely. the scanner is great on the minja as our ewar is ****** and your not gonna carry the cloak fill it with something more useful. nothing more important than knowing if there is 1 dude around the corner or 6 waiting for your leather clad arse. so a good piece of kit to gets some easy kills XD.
remotes. again remotes.
hope this a lil bit of help for you sorry for rambling... nahhhh take my wall of text!

So as the popular opinion is to throw cloaks in the dust, that's what I shall do. Thank god I only bothered to get level 1 on it
As for that wall of text; very useful, thanks! I currently run Shotty/Bolt, with EnhCardreg, EnhMyo, EnhDamp, and EnhPrecEnh. Was running links with my RE's but I'll swap them out for the scanner as you suggested

PLEASE for the love of TALOS! Do not run a cloak SG scout. I'm a scout, and I literally hacve never bought the cloak SKILLBOOK. I was a scout back when they were UP, and there were no cloaks. Run Minja with Nova Knives and CR without a cloak, its very fun and effective. You can fit so much more on your suit without a cloak.

Level up profile dampening 1st. That is the most important tool for the scout. With a shotgun (if you can use it. took me a while to understand it well and I'm still not great at it) even the basic scout is deadly. Actually, I run some basic scouts quite often to save on isk. Good for hacking and taking out stragglers.
Just a reminder that there was a time when the scout did NOT have the cloak. The cloak helps but, you don't need it. Is a toss up really. I have a couple of setups without the cloack and some with the cloack depending on what i want to do. You can overcome the need for the cloak by having speed. So, level up the running ability and get kinkats.

Noob was pretty on point, despite being long winded.
Cloaks aren't what they used to be, and you may find them more hassle than they are worth.
EWAR is where it is at if you haven't already skilled fully into it, but with the new EWAR system, I wouldn't necessarily worry about precision mods, though you can try them out to see if you find them helpful.
KinCats on a Minja are beastly.
And really, the biggest reason to get level 5 Minja is the knifing/hacking bonus. Those are very good even if you don't compliment them with mods.

It's good that you've forgone the cloak, that sucker was gonna be a weight around your neck when it came time to actually develop your skills.
That said, keeping a fitting with one is still a good idea if you're gonna insist on scouting in a match - it's a great help in covering open ground and on a MinScout making those runs, coupled with the dampening bonus, can help you get a crucial hack in better than anyone else on the map.
