We all know that there are very few highslot modules to choose from so I decided to introduce the idea for one..... wouldn't take any new assets, just paint the other damage modifiers .
Add in a damage profile modifier module for the high slot .
With this progression (including reverse modifiers)
basic: -5/+5 , +5/-5 advanced: -10/+10 , +10/-10 proto : -15/+15 , +15/-15
This will add a whole new sense of diversity and unpredictability to dust....imagine some fool thinking your combat rifle can't shred his shields and Bam! Complex damage profile mod...proceeds to shittt on shields
And if you think this is dumb then state why, not just "no this is dumb and I can't explain why it's dumb because I'm just dumb, and trying to hate on something"

Having the ability to flatten a profile is dumb. Weapon profiles are there such that one weapon isn't the best answer to everything: at 0/0 the weapon with the best balance of range/DPS/clip/kick etc is just the best for that person, with no need to ever change or skill into another weapon.
That is bad for the health of the game overall (ie, less SP needed to 'finish') and for things like shield/armour balance - why bother with shields, they'll run out faster because they will always have less overall EHP vs a neutral profile gun.
So, no.

In eve there are different focusing crystals for lasers but...
As for other weapons (as i barely know eve, and i only can relate weapons i use ) i am unsure.
But weapon mods don't seem too bad. Ammo expand, range boost, rof boost and other things of the ilk don't seem too bad.
Balancing them are a whole new problem though (+15/-15 for example to normalized a damage profile or flip it completely... Is kinda weird. Also, with prof it can become a bit broken. (no drawbacks. A +5/+5 AR/RR is possible with this idea) |

It's kind of sad to see people hating this. Honestly, I thought this was a cool idea; it just adds to the diversity of fittings, allowing you to boost your weapons shortcomings by sacrificing its benefits, or further increasing its strong side and amplifying its weak point.
It doesn't have an effect on the actual damage output of the weapon. The fact that it would use a high slot means you are probably sacrificing a damage mod, so there seems to be more negatives to using them than positives.
Would someone please explain why this would truly be detrimental to game balance? A post above said this would be a nerf to shield tanking, but I believe it would be a buff due to more people wanting to stack their weapon's profile against the more prevalent health type: armour.

Looks like somebody is butthurt that their ScR isn't melting armor fast enough.

Not worth it, net gain is 0 while a damage mod has a netgain of 7, this mod is worse than a damage mod unless you stack 3+ damage mods on your suit. And at that point your already gimped so it doesnt even matter.

So, no. you are wrong. net gain is 0 while a damage mod has a gain of 7%. beside that you can simply use shield shredding light weapon together with an armor shredding sidearm and get the best of both worlds. you will still be better of with light damage mods. this mod is worse than a damage mod at the end.
it will benefit some commandos and logis thought which need every help they can get. |
