Folks,
I'm starting this thread to get a fresh look what we can bring to CCP to update the skill tree in Dust. This is a bit open form but some basic guidelines I'm asking you to you help me with:
1) Identify all the skills that offer no bonus, have no discernabile value, or they are unclear in their benefit.
2) Offer reworks to the aforementioned skills.
3) propose new or different skills for implementation.

I'll start us off...
1. Provide small racial bonus per level to Frame suits that are also applied to advanced variety of suits.
Example: Cal Medium Frame provides 2% resist to Hybrid: Thermal damage and 2% Efficacy to Shield Regulators per level. These bonuses are in effect anytime a player wears a Cal Medium suit and is additive to the Advanced version bonuses.
2. Identify and/or develop some basic support skills that apply across all light weapons (could also effect heavy weapons and sidearms).
Example: Sharpshooter would be removed from the Plasma Rifle and Projectile internal weapons tree and made a weapon support skill and the dispersion reducing effects per weapon are applied to all weapons used by the player. Some weapons would find this a noticably more useful skill than others or in some cases not applicable, however, it would apply to all appropriate typed weapons.
This is very similar to the EVE model where you train several basic skills that apply in varying degrees across different types of weapons. You train basic Gunnery, Sharpshooter, Surgical Strike, Rapid Fire, etc. in addition to things like Hybrid Weapon by size (small, medium, large) and then the appropriate specialization into blaster or rail.

I would like the skill point requirements for skill progression to be reviewed, that is the skill points required to go from level 1 to level 2, the points required to go from 2 to 3, from 3 to 4, and from 4 to 5.
I know originally this is based on the progression in eve online, and might mimic it exactly, but perhaps the progression to skill level 4 and 5 are too steep, maybe that is intended, but maybe it should be reviewed.
Also, the skill multiplier should be reviewed for some skills as well, especially those which are 8x or higher.
As for new stuff, I'd like to see new weapon mods added that are under the same skill or branch off from the skill needed for damage mods. Weapon mods like... increasing heat cooldown, or increasing maximum heat, decreasing kick, decreasing dispersion, increasing max ammo, increasing clip size. Maybe even mods that tweak the damage profile like... +5% vs shield - 5% vs armor, and the reverse.

Addressing the actual SP required per level is a solid idea, Banjo. I think they can keep the EVE-esque progression but tone down how steep the increase is of key skills.
Good feedback, thanks.

I don't much about the skill tree outside of being a heavy, but I do know one thing.
There are an absurd amount of skills that don't do anything past level 3 or 4. You could spell millions of SP maxing certain skills out and get absolutely nothing. While they may be placeholders, right now they're effectively traps set up for players to waste SP in accidentally. Theres one or two of these in dropsuit operations, but I know for a fact that vehicle skill trees are overflowing with these traps. Either give them some sort of bonus or cap the skills at 3 or 4. Players shouldn't never have to navigate the skill tree to avoid skills that do litterally nothing.
The horror! The horror!

Very handy skill cost spreadsheet - definetly gives you a gauge of how much some useless skills are costing us.

Great point, Hynox.
You literally hit on the reason that I wanted to I start the thread. I was looking at the vehicle skill tree and the amount of SP you can invest that does absolutely nothing was staggering.
In the infantry realm, there are numerous skills that supply no tangible benefit other than allow you to unlock a gear tier every other level..

I want a sh*tposting skill
EVE Online is what you get when engineers attempt to create "fun" without consulting someone who comprehends the word.
