I got War Thunder for the PC and I've been having fun with both aerial and ground combat.
Only thing that I think is missing is Infantry.

Whatever happened to that game? It claims to be dust but I don't believe it.

It's great.
I'm certainly better at it that I was a tanker at Dust. It's honestly beautiful when you put an HEAT shell into a Sherman's gun Mantlet through his front left mantlet plating or detonate an ISU-122's ammo stores with a well placed AP shell from 750m.

I'm a fan. The tank battles are ok, but I much prefer flying.
The only annoying thing with the game is sometimes the hit detection works and you watch the enemy explode and others your shots just "sparkle" on the enemy plane's fuselage or wing.
Also, flying the Horten is incredibly fun.

I've both one shotted enemy tanks as well as had to dump 7 rounds into them. I'm still getting used to it though.

oh yea i'm loving it on my 4rth night of playing.. i'm playing with realistic controls on the PS4.. makes dust flying look like childs play.. it's funny i get most my kills with the reserve russian I-15 bi-planes more than I do my Yaks..
it's hell going against mouse users tho on PS4 but i'm starting to get a couple kills a spawn.. if you already kno basic manuvers like immelmans then this game is pretty easy to get into.. dogfighting is actually worth the effort because there's no redline to run to.
i'm kinda wish i had skilled AI bomber crew tho because damn those gunners.. i'm really liking the russian planes so far. i have this deadzone on my pitch stick tho that's been bothering me and trying to get shots with the wind after yawing is very challenging. I'm wondering if the wind effect clears up in later tiers..

yea it happens but the cool thing is your not worried about isk.. you just have to wait to fly that plane again. i think the chat messages are pretty funny when it happens. some guy rages out because he lost his toy airplane he didn't have to spend isk on..

I have yet to really get into aerial combat, in the time I've spent playing it, most of it has been tank battles.

That depends on your shot placement, type of shell used, distance, angle of armour, armour face, and players investments into their crewmen.
Yeah I've had battles where I've knocked out tanks or been knocked out with a well placed shot to the side armour, or if a shell penetrates and kills a crewman, or detonates and ammunition store. But I've also had battles where my Tiger H1 has bounced shot after shot from 3 tanks, repaired it's damage, and was pulled to safety by an allied tank having taken down a few of the enemies while immobilised.
The thing about War Thunder is that is is so much more about your knowledge of the enemy, positioning, and target acquisition.
OHKO's are just a part of the territory and usually are the mark of a well placed shot with the correct ammo type against the correct section of your hull.
E.G- over the weekend I was driving my Sherman M4A1 in a Single Point Domination on the Poland Map. I usually like to take up a position in the Sherman over looking the township from the small Hamlet outside the main conflict zone. This lets me cover all of the high ground of the hillside and the main street leading to the capture point.
I got caught in a fight against another Sherman at maybe 60m where all shots would likely penetrate side or rear armour. He shot first. Usually this conveys a significant advantage as it is one more chance to penetrate armour at close range.
This tank has wedged himself between a small stone building and store house with heavy foliage in front of him. A perfect position as I could neither flank him for a side shot or see his forward plating so there was no chance to target his frontal machine gunner.
Fortunately for me I'd done a quick X-Ray on the Sherman's armour and had noted why I seemed to die a lot from Gun Mantlet penetrations. The armour on the front right on the Mantlet was the thinnest on the tank meaning I could take out his main gunner.
I put two shots into that place and was rewarded with the kill. Since his flaming wreckage was stuck there I was able to take a position across the road on the other side of the buildings with hard cover against the city below and had clear fire across the wooded hill top where Tank Destroyers usually like to sit and was able to pick off a Pzkw III short barrel 75mm and a Stug III before I was immobilized and destroyed by a T-34 L-11.

Light tanks are cool and if you like them work into the Walker Bulldog in the American Tree as it's the fastest tank at around 74kmph and has Sabot Rounds for amazing armour penetration at close range.
The only down side to Light Tanks is that at higher tiers everything and their mother penetrates their armour for OHKO, especially the ISU-122, Tiger H1, and the KV-11. I'm into the Medium and Heavy Tanks focusing on my Tiger II and working into the American T-26 Pershing as more are released on the PS4.

war thunder is great.
soviet low tier air combat is easy mode though, mostly because the game is based on ground targets (while soviet planes excel at low altitude flight) and most new players do no know how to USA planes (climb, keep speed, dont turn fight). |

I am working on getting the Walker Bulldog though I have noticed that I get popped PDQ when I do get hit. I love it when people think that they're going to be able to track my orbit while I just keep hitting them (yes, I play Eve in War Thunder). They make it so easy to kill them cause they can never get a bead on me. It is the ones that keep their gun still and wait for me to line the shot up for them that get me.
I really can't wait for the Minmatar vehicles.
@Jack I haven't really gotten too into the Aerial combat. I should probably give it more of a try than I have.
